Champagne.
Fireworks.
I was standing between my mother and brother in law, when we greeted 2023. Standing outside on the street, staring at the bright fireworks in the sky. Only the three of us counted right now.
It was only us.
We were standing there, silent, the only sounds heard: a group of people at the end of our street, laughing and talking loudly and fireworks.
The noises ended an hour later. I was just standing there, staring at the sky. My brother in law and mother already went inside our small home, but I didn't want to yet. I wanted to stare.
Another hour later the fireworks ended. Silence in the air. I was still standing. Staring at the sky. I could stand here forever. My brother in law always thought it was weird, how I could stand in place for a long time, but my mother understood. She understood me.
-Ria-i almost flinched when a quiet voice of my brother was heard from behind me. I didn't turn around to look at him. I just kept staring-you'll freeze to death out here. Just face the truth, sun. He won't come back-he said, so quietly, I almost didn't hear. He then cleared his throat and spoke in a louder and firmer voice-give up already. He clearly doesn't care anymore.
I tensed up, gulping quietly. He was right. Im such a mess. Waiting for the guy who fucked my life up so badly, but also gave me something no one ever did. Love. I didn't believe him, when he said that he regrets me, being with me and laying his eyes on my in the first place. I didn't believe that crap. I still don't.
But he was right. I knew that.
But I really believed that the person who put light in my dark, would come back to me.
I cleared my throat and finally turned my head to look at my brother. His dark blonde, messy hair was in his face, his dark eyes were staring at me. I stared back.
-Go away, Ian. Go away-I spoke, voice so hoarse and tired. I didn't want his words in my brain.
'give up already'
'He clearly doesn't care anymore'
'anymore'

-Ria! Cmon, were gonna be late-Evan's low voice called out for me from downstairs.
I hurried to straighten the last strand of my dark blonde hair, chewing the most delicious chewing gum I have ever chewed. It was strawberry vanilla flavored, with a hint of cherry in it.
I adjusted my long dark red dress with my hands, and took a deep breath. He said to dress up nicely, so that's what I did. I bought the prettiest dress in town for the prettiest guy. I giggled quietly, going out of my bedroom, and walking down the short corridor slowly.
-You look beautiful-I grinned slightly, hearing my Evan's words. My Evan's. My love's.
He was standing by the front door, across from the corridor so he could perfectly see my frame. He walked over to the last step and wrapped his not too muscular, but veiny, arms around my waist, lifting me from the ground. I laughed quietly, wrapping my arms around his neck.
-My pretty girl-Evan kissed my lips with minimal passion. I kissed him back, smiling like the happiest girl alive. That's because I felt like the happiest girl alive. I had my boy. But little did I know...-cmon, my pretty girl, were gonna be late-he set me to the ground and took out a hand in my direction, that I grabbed with my small one.
