Victoria G: Who are your acting inspirations?

Marilyn Harris Smith: Angela Bassett, Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks.

VG: What is your favorite thing about acting?

MHS: Being able to become another person at another time.

VG: What was your first acting job?

MHS: On a police drama called "The Shield". I played a mother upset with the police asking her questions about her dead son.

VG: What is your favorite project you have ever done?

MHS: Nickelodeon's show Victorious.

VG: What are some qualities you look for in a project?

MHS: Great writing. A good story. Something I can watch with my grandchildren.

VG: Which character that you have played so far has been the most similar to you?

MHS: I played a person being asked questions for jury duty on American Crime Story: The OJ Simpson Story. She was very direct with her answers. I'm very direct with my answers.

VG: One of your most notable roles was as André's Grandmother in the Nickelodeon series, Victorious. What can you share about your time working on that series?

MHS: It was a great production. Very organized. The talent was exceptional. All of the young actors were well prepared and professional. The crew, prop people, craft services, wardrobe and makeup were all great. It was like working with family.

VG: How would you describe yourself in three words?

MHS: Christian, kind, funny.

VG: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

MHS: God willing, I see myself being a working actress with my own TV series.

VG: What are three qualities every actor should have?

MHS: The ability to be directed. Comfortable with absorbing the character they play. Being able to stay humble and grounded whether successful or not.

VG: Do you have any advice for an aspiring actor?

MHS: Believe in yourself. Don't take the rejection personally. Acting is about your fitting the vision of the writer and director. Have fun.

VG: What's next for you?

MHS: I will be appearing at Splat Con on October 19th and October 20th at the LAX Hilton in Los Angeles, California. I am constantly auditioning, and hopefully will get booked for a part soon.

MHS: More than one. Antoine Fuqua, Steven Spielberg and Greta Gerwig

VG: What is something you can't live without?

MHS: Jesus Christ

VG: What is your biggest pet peeve?

MHS: Not closing cabinet doors.

VG: Do you have any hidden talents?

MHS: I write poetry and I can freestyle rap.

VG: Do you play any instruments?

MHS: No

VG: What is your favorite pastime?

MHS: Reading

VG: Do you have any pets?

MHS: No

VG: What is your biggest fear?

MHS: Losing my sense of humor.

VG: What is your favorite film genre?

MHS: Black and White Classics like Psycho, Casablanca, North by Northwest, Double Indemnity and many more.
