Preface

Thank you all for being ever so patient with me and, I know a preface isn't much and this is short, but, hey, first time writing in a while. So please let me know what you think and vote if you just love it that much!

Preface ~

I move myself further into Jake's side, nuzzling my head into his chest. I hear him chuckle and it is the sweetest sound I can ever hear. He wraps his arm around my shoulders, relaxing in front of the fire as we watch television. We just finished unpacking only minutes ago and I am enjoying lying beside him and ingesting his distinct scent that I am now fond of rather than repulsed.

"Nes," he murmurs. I can tell sleep is overcoming him and I reassure him that I am fine, as I always do.

"Jake, go sleep. I'll read that new book I bought, pass some time. . . I also . . . need to hunt."

He nods in understanding. I know I should be comfortable telling him about hunting because it is a normal part of my life now but it stills feels so weird to openly talk about such things. As my friend in the past I would say "going out with mum and dad, won't be long', delaying the inevitable truth but he knew all the same. So what's different now? I do not know, all I know is a trust him and am so glad I will never have to go through the pain of explaining what I am to my partner as Jake has been associated with my family since before I was even born.

He kisses my forehead so softly you could almost miss the touch, even with my extra sensitive senses. "I love you."

"I love you too, now rest and I will be back soon," I promise before his lips meet mine only briefly.

He literally stumbles off to bed as I slip some shoes on and stare off after him. He glances back, smiling, before entering the bedroom and turning off the light.

I leave the home and run through the woods surrounding the property, making it invisible to the naked eye from the road. It's only moments before I catch the smell of a mountain lion and run towards it. My mind is filled with thoughts that distract me from my now natural instinct and process of hunting.

Finally finished packing. I start at Forks High in two weeks, at the very start of the first semester. Dad convinced the principal of my relationship to him as Carlisle's niece, with some already filled out paperwork from Carlisle and a previous phone call with the new principal to strengthen the claim. His name is Mr Hall, easy to remember I guess and he seems nice enough as far as dad and mum have told me. He was not the principal when they graduated – he was hired the following year.

I realise I've drained the lion of its blood and begin walking to find some more. With Jake I try to get less often so do enough to last me a couple weeks at least.

I think of Jake a home in there by himself. A big house with only the two of us seems silly but it's the easiest thing. Easier to hunt as I can remain out of sight with no chance of being found out.

Mum will call tomorrow as she is sticking almost every if she has the chance. As we don't sleep it's not really an issue; if we're busy she simply calls at night whilst Jake is asleep. It is not particularly hard, even with a busy schedule, as we are awake and active 24/7. I told her to not bother tonight as I had to hunt and it does take a while for me.

I wonder how school will go. Jake and I have already bought my books as I know the six classes I will be taking for the year.

English, Mathematical Methods (dad demanded it to increase my score in my last year – as if that matters, I'll definitely get in to college), Chemistry, Biology, Psychology and French (once again, will boost my score).

Jake is now working full time as a mechanic, is also builds car up from scratch so earns a decent amount of money. Money doesn't influence Jake's choices in career – he simply loves working with the mechanics of an engine and figuring out how things work. He has an intrigued mind, something that I have always loved about him.

I realise I have finished off my second mountain lion for the night and decide to call a quits and go back home to Jake. I read my book but lay with him, him cuddling into me. My cool exterior never once making him shiver or retract due to his own internal personal body heater.

I climb into bed whilst holding Rapture by Lauren Kate. Jake stirs in his sleep, as he always does once I slide in next to him. He slides himself over and rests his head on my chest. I see the smile on his lips and realise he is still awake.

"I thought you were tired," I say, the smile I now have known in my gleeful tone.

"Shh."

I laugh and shake my head before reading my book, realising I am almost finished this series but thankful I have a whole bookshelf filled with books, a third I have yet to read.

I watch him as he slowly falls asleep. I decide to read after he is resting so I rub a finger along his forehead, a gentle massage as he drifts to sleep. I am so happy in our little piece of the world. Away from the prying eyes of all and how that will stop once I start school! Ordinary school!

A school both my parents attended who I have to fake are my cousins and Bella my 'cousin' Edward's wife. It will be so strange to keep up the charade but I must to protect our secret. The Whole vampire populations' secret that no one must ever know unless they are of the supernatural world themselves.

I am sixteen years old. I moved here a year ago due to my parents supposedly dying so took a year off school and am now enrolled. We decided to say I have been here for a while as I do look older than fifteen to be enrolled in form four. This also ensures my excuse for staying in Forks – Carlisle has trusted Charlie to be my guardian so I can finish school here. The school believe I am living with Charlie as that is easiest to believe than a sixteen year old living with and being in a relationship with an almost twenty-one year old.

I look at Jake, smiling to myself as he is now snuggled into my side as I was earlier to him. I open my book to page 184, realising I will have it almost finished by the time Jake wakes in the morning.

I must give another apology as I will not be able to update as regularly as I did with my other two mini stories due to immense amounts of commitments I now have in my ever so busy life. Oh what fun a busy schedule is!
