"Oh crap!" Jungkook hisses upon hearing the crunch from under the woman's heels as she hurried past. He was a little too late to bend down and pick up the earpiece that had fallen from his ear. Now, in his hand lies only the shattered pieces of what was left after being stomped on.
He looks around, hoping to spot at least one person from his staff to swap the device with, but it's impossible to see anyone in the crowd. At this moment, he's torn between rushing to the scene or heading to the control room where they've set up their equipment, to get another earpiece.
"Fuck it!" he mutters and makes a run for the room. His mind races with the thoughts of how they were halfway through the event, and it had been going pretty well until now, but of course, something had to go wrong.
Jungkook currently works as an Event Operations Manager for K-EventPro, the largest company specializing in hosting events for 'high-profile personalities'.
He had been working on this venue for the past two weeks, ensuring every detail was meticulously in place. It had been incredibly hectic coordinating with different vendors to set up the stage design and the audio- video equipments. Surveillance cameras had been installed in every corner, technology support was ready, and parking and seating arrangements were done beautifully. From the flowers to the food, every single detail was perfected according to the main party's wishes.
It was the engagement of a well-known businessman and their 'influencer' partner, arranged by their parents. Even with a streamlined approach, the guest list anticipated a crowd of about 300.
In the late evening, the champagne was popped open, marking the start of the event as glasses were distributed to the guests.
An hour had already passed with slow music playing in the background and ambient lighting setting the mood. There was still one more hour to go before the ring exchange ceremony. Whispered conversations filled the corners of the VIP area, while the dancing stage awaited the enthusiastic guests eager to take the floor.
But 30 minutes before the ceremony, the atmosphere began to shift. It first started outside the venue, with the parking lot growing significantly noisier than usual, with cars lining up, waiting to find a parking spot.
Next, it was the seating tables that became packed and the hall grew more crowded as more guests arrived. Jungkook's initial thought had been that perhaps he had miscalculated the events logistics. But as he moved around to understand the situation better, he realised that there were people inside, who weren't on the guest list.
"Dong-min, why are you letting people in without an invitation card?" he had connected to the check-in staff immediately.
There was so much noise in the background that Jungkook doubted Dongmin had even heard what he was saying.
"Sir, the bride said that they're her friends and asked me to let them in."
But Jungkook hadn't been informed about this by anyone. He feared, if the same continued and more guests kept arriving, the event was on track to become a disaster.
He had quickly reached out to the groom, requesting an immediate conversation, to which he had promptly agreed to meet along with the bride in one of the rooms.
"Mr. Ahn, you can't just invite more people without informing me beforehand."
His anger simmers down when he notices the same worried expressions on Ahn's face.
"Mr. Jeon, I had no idea about this either. I just found out my fiance invited her influencer friends, right before they started coming in."
"Well that doesn't help! Fifteen to twenty extra guests could have been manageable, but there are hundred more down there. We are prepared only for the guests on the list, and even with the backup arrangements, we won't be able to accommodate or cater the additional people who have arrived."
