"I know you don't like it, but Mrs. Reed says that no Pokémon are allowed!" Valen sighed, looking at Cubchoo. "I don't like it either, but that's the rules."
"Choo..." Cubchoo let out sadly, hugging Valen's leg.
"It ain't that bad, Cubchoo." River smiled. "You get to rest, and not have to worry about accidentally tripping students!"
Cubchoo looked up at River and reluctantly nodded. He walked up to Valen, and tapped the Pokéball with his head, going inside it.
"Don't worry Cubchoo, you'll be outta there in no time." Valen smiled, turning to River. "Have you been to the library here? It's huge!"
River smiled and nodded. "Yuppers! Already got my library card and everything, what about you?"
Valen smiled as he nodded. "I'm gonna get mine today! The librarian was super helpful!" The young boy beamed, noticing a girl pass by. "Hey, who's that? I haven't seen her before."
River adjusted his glasses. "Oh, that's Lillian Skye. She's also new to this school." He explained, taking his glasses off to clean them.
Valen's lips curled into a large grin. His heart began to flutter as his eyes followed Lillian. "Uh, Valen? Hello?" River asked, waving his hand in front of Valen's face.
"H-Huh?" Valen blinked, snapping out of his daze. "S-Sorry! What were we talking about?"
River grinned at his best friend. "You like her, don't you?"
Valen's face lit up redder than a Magcargo. "W-What!? N-No I d-don't!"
"You totally do!" River flashed a cheeky smile. "Valen and Lillian, sitting in a tree..."
"Shut up shut up shut up!" Valen exclaimed, covering his ears to try and block River's teasing.
"Hehehe, sorry Valen." River chuckled, going onto his phone to check the time. "Okay, you wanna head to class now? It's almost time."
Valen nodded and the two walked to class. Before they could get there, Valen was suddenly tackled into a locker. River turned around to find Terry pinning Valen against the lockers.
"Hey there, snow boy." Terry laughed, trapping Valen in a headlock. "Did you think you could escape your daily morning beatings?" He snickered, punching Valen in the stomach.
"Ow!" Valen groaned, clutching his stomach. It was just one punch but he already felt like throwing up. "Pl-Please Terry, I'm still sore from yesterday." He whined. Valen had to lie to his mom, saying that he was back from playing sports. Terry had threatened him with a wedgie so bad that not even ten Audinos could help him if he tattled.
"H-Hey! L-Let him go!" River exclaimed. "O-Or else I'll tell a teacher!"
Terry chuckled as he tossed Valen aside, stomping up to a now very nervous River. "Oh yeah, four eyes? You are gonna tell a teacher on me?" He asked, grabbing onto River's tie and pulling him face-to-face. Their noses were almost touching with how close he was.
"I- I- I-" River stammered, having lost all confidence.
"Hey! Shouted a teacher. "You stop that right now, young man!"
Terry scoffed and pushed River away. "Whatever, see you losers!" He laughed as he walked off.
River sighed as he checked up on Valen. "Dude, are you okay?" He asked, helping his friend up.
Valen groaned. "Y-yeah... I was really hoping I could avoid Terry today." He sighed. "Like, I just wanna get on with my day. Why does he gotta be such a jerk!"
