The days melted together. Sleep, hunt, garden, eat, repeat.
Lisa has been quite friendly, but the one in charge... A man with a dark trench coat, long black kept hair, a trimmed beard and green eyes... his name is Keegan. And he's kind, but something about his intentions seem fake. He used to be a scientist, and he claims he's looking for a cure. He's searching day and night, and even requested to come with us on our journey, and so did Lisa, who will be leaving Devon in charge once we all leave. They were even kind enough to lend us one of their army cars. One of those with a carrier for materials, and supplies, and anyone who's not driving or in the front seat. Devon said if my dad passes by, he'll give him my letter, and a car to follow, along with supplies, food and resources.
As I'm helping load our vehicle with Devon, I hear Vincent talking quietly where I had left him. Chained to one of the pillars around the corner where he can't cause problems. I put down the box of food in the carrier and quietly make my way to stand against a closer wall to listen on to who and what he's talking to and about.
"Aye, you got yerself a deal Mr. Vincent." Pirate-guy said gruffly, making his way down a quiet hallway. I whistle, and walk around that small corner. "A deal? Mind letting me in on this. DEAL?"
Vincent flinched and laughed nervously, waving his hand absent-mindedly. "Azrael, I had just asked Commander for some fireworks! It would act like a flare-gun for us!"
I blinked at him, and crossed my sleeved arms over my chest. My look of disbelief clear on my scarred face.
"We don't need Fireworks." I hissed. "We could. You said anything can be made into a weapon. Fireworks could be a good weapon if you use them right." I paused, and thought for a moment. "You still spoke without permission Vincent. Nana will be taking a quarter of your rations. Get your ass in the car and don't touch anything. Sam will be keeping an eye on you." He nodded, and stepped over to him to unhook the chain from the pillar, whistling over to Phoenix who was nearby. "Escort him to the car. Afterward, go get Alex, Charlette, and Sandy. I'll get Keegan and Lisa, and then we'll head out." I leaned closer to them and whisper in their ear. "If you still have those bombs, make sure you plant them somewhere secluded. I don't trust the commander."
They nodded, gave me a gentle peck on the forehead after pulling me to their level, and then skipped over to the car, with Vincent's chain in hand. Tugging at it every so often. I let out a short giggle and sighed. Time to get the scientist and Lisa.Time passed, And the sun is already rising. Sam has started the car, and everyone is loading up. I turn my head to Phoenix, who slipped something into my hand, attempting to be discreet. "The button, for the bomb. Press it when we're far enough. If we're followed, I packed extra guns and ammo." I nodded in understanding, and pat their head. "Alright, get in, You're gonna be the door-gun. I trust you have good aim?" They let out a quiet laugh and nodded. "Yep. Let's go."
I looked through the small window where I could see Nana, Charlette, Alex, Vincent, Lisa, Keegan, and Phoenix sitting in. "You guys hold tight, if you need anything, let me know on the walkie."
Nana looked at me with a worried glance, her wrinkled face contorting into concern. "Azrael, who will be driving.. ? You are not an adult. And Sam isn't either."
I giggled and gave her a thumbs up. "Sam's driving, I'll show him what my dad showed me. Not to mention, people wouldn't be driving on the highway now. We'll be okay Nana." I leaned forward and nuzzled her shoulder. "Sam. Let's move out!" I hit the side of the car hard enough Sam could hear. The response in return, was the engine roaring, and the vehicle slowly moving forward. I grabbed onto one of the car's strong poles, and held onto it. Pulling myself on to the roof of the car as we began to drive into the sunrise. Once we were far enough, I let out a quiet sigh.
I pulled the button from my pocket, and looked at it.
If I blow it up, we won't be followed. I could keep them safe. But if I blow it up, Dad won't know where I've been, And Devon won't be able to help him if he ever stumbles upon the factory. I let out a growl and gasp quietly to an echo of a gunshot. I lift my head, and to my half-surprise. A truck, with the commander, and a woman in it. The woman has a pistol in hand and she's half-waist out of the passenger window. I rolled my eye and held my hand to the opening from the carrier. And in time, a bow, and a few arrows were given to me. I chuckled, and nodded. If I light the arrowheads, It could possibly slow them down. I pulled a lighter from my pocket, lit the arrowhead, and prepared my bow. Aiming directly for the woman. In a second, I shot, and I happened to hit her hand. I grinned to myself, another gunshot, but from the man. Is this idiot really trying to shoot me while driving? I rolled my brown eye and pulled the bow's string back. I aimed. And fired. Hitting square through the windshield and through the man's chest. Good shot, dad's training really pulled off. The car spurred out of control and crashed into a tree, and without a moment of thinking, I grabbed the button, and pressed it. Within a few minutes, The sounds of explosions and screaming sounded the air. As long as my family is safe.
