Ch-4

Nobody POV:

A few minutes later, Hyerim's phone rang. She thought it was Yeonjun and was about to pick the call up. But it was from an unknown number. Hyerim picked it up.

Hyerim: Hello?
Yeonjun: Hey. It's me, Yeonjun.
Hyerim: What do you want? You called me at such a late hour.
Yeonjun: I just wanted to hear your voice.
Hyerim: Seriously?? You called just to hear my voice??
Yeonjun: Don't judge me! Your voice is really cute and I can't get enough of it. I could literally listen to you talk for the rest of my life and I wouldn't get bored.
Hyerim: Stop being so cheesy. It's cringe. We don't even know each other. Why would you wanna hear me talk for the rest of your life??
Yeonjun: I'm only speaking the truth. You don't even know how pretty your voice is. Even listening to it through the phone, I could still feel my heart racing. And I want to hear you talk forever because I want to know everything about you. Your hobbies, likes and dislikes, everything. I would listen to you talk and talk and wouldn't get tired.
Yeonjun: Can you just humour me and talk about yourself? Just talk about the most random things. Even if it doesn't make sense. I just wanna hear your voice.
Hyerim: I don't know what to say...I'm gonna say a random thing. Um...I love animals. Anything related to animals.

There was a silence on the other side of the phone except for Yeonjun's breathing. Hyerim could clearly hear it. Then she heard him speak.

Yeonjun: Animals? What kind of animals do you like??
Hyerim: Umm...I like all of them. I can't pick a favourite one because I love them all. But I have to admit that I have a soft spot for puppies, ferrets, kittens and bunnies. They're just so cute!! What about you? Do you like animals??
Yeonjun: I love all kinds of animals as well. Especially pandas. Pandas are just so cute. You like ferrets? That's a cool choice. What else do you like??
Hyerim: I like a lot of things. It would take hours if I listed everything I like. How about you tell me something you like. I can't be the only one talking here.
Yeonjun: So you're passing the responsibility to me now? I see how it is. If you really want to know what I like, I love dancing and singing. I also like sports. I'll tell you something else.... I like you.
Hyerim: Wow that was so smooth.
Yeonjun: You can't expect me to be a smooth talker, can you? I may be smooth at everything else but not at talking. I just speak directly because I get lost in my thoughts when I'm talking to you and I say the first thing that comes to my mind.
Hyerim: Ok that's fair. I can't expect you to be smooth when you're talking to the girl you're obsessed with.
Yeonjun: You really do like to sass me, don't you? I know I'm pretty obsessed with you now but you don't have to be so rude about it. Don't you feel any sympathy for me??
Hyerim: How about you give me a good reason to feel any sympathy for you? Because you're being annoying, obsessed and dramatic.
Yeonjun: What kind of words are you using?? I'm not being annoying, I'm just being honest. I'm dramatic because I'm in love. There's a difference. And I'm only obsessed with you because you're so attractive.
Hyerim: Don't call it love. You're obsessed with me because you think I'm pretty. It's not real love. It's just a shallow obsession based on looks. And even though I don't feel any sympathy for you, I'll listen to whatever you say because I'm bored.
Yeonjun: I'm glad that you're at least willing to listen to me. And it's not true that I'm only obsessed with your looks. I'm also obsessed with your personality. Even though you like to sass me, I can tell you're a kind person. You probably have a lot of kindness in your heart. That's another thing I like about you.
Hyerim: There's no way you can tell that I'm kind just from talking to me for a few minutes. You're just saying that...
Yeonjun: Are you doubting me? I'm being honest with you here. Based on the way you responded to the things I said, I can tell that you're a kind person. A cruel person wouldn't tolerate me rambling about how attractive they are. The fact that you're putting up with me is proof enough that you have kindness in your heart.

Hyerim was speechless. He was observant and he understood her. Hyerim's cold and sassy personality was a facade. She was actually very soft and kind on the inside. She tried to keep her facade up with Yeonjun but he seemed to understand her better than anyone even though he just met her today.

Hyerim: How can you be so sure that I have kindness in my heart? You're just guessing.
Yeonjun: It's not a guess. It's the truth. I wouldn't be saying this if I wasn't sure. You may be cold and sarcastic on the outside but that's just to protect yourself. You have the most kind and beautiful heart. You're just hiding it with a wall.

Hyerim was shocked. He was so damn observant. He was able to see past her facade and see the vulnerable and soft side of her. He was able to tell that she has been hurt in the past and it made her put up a wall around herself. Even Jessica, her best friend, didn't know this about her. Hyerim was touched that someone was able to understand her like this.

Yeonjun: I know that there's a lot of pain hidden inside you. But I also know that there's a lot of kindness hidden inside. Your exterior may be hard and tough, but on the inside, you have a very soft and fragile heart. That's what I admire about you more than anything.

Hyerim's heart was on the verge of bursting. She couldn't fathom how someone could understand her so well without even knowing her for long. She tried to act casual though.

Hyerim: You're making me sound so delicate and fragile. I'm tougher than I look
Yeonjun: I never said you were fragile. You may look and act tough but inside, you're very fragile and kind. You have a heart purer than gold. You care about other people more than yourself. You're probably the type to put yourself last and never ask for anything in return. Am I right?

Hyerim felt her heart drop when he said that. He described her so perfectly. She was definitely the type to not ask for anything in return just to make sure others were satisfied. The worst part was that she never told this to anyone and no one could tell about her being that way. But this stranger she just met managed to see through her completely

Hyerim: Why do you seem to know me better than myself...?
Yeonjun: Because I'm good at reading people. I can tell when someone is faking who they are and who they really are. You're definitely a kind and sweet girl with the most beautiful soul. And I can't believe someone hasn't snatched you up already. You're so wonderful, it's a mystery to me how guys are not falling for you left and right.

Hyerim was totally flabbergasted at how he was making her sound. She knew she was a good person, but the way he said it, it sounded like she was the most perfect girl on the earth.

Hyerim: Why do you keep describing me like that? You're making it sound like I'm some angelic saint without any flaws.
Yeonjun: I never said you're an angel. But you do have a lot of angel traits. I would even say you're the definition of a kind soul but maybe a lot of people wouldn't agree because of your tough exterior. The way I see it, you probably act tough to hide the fragility inside you. And even though you have a fragile heart, you're tough enough to face the world by yourself. Am I right or wrong?.
Hyerim: You are seriously so observant..... Are you a mind reader or something?
Yeonjun: I just happen to be very good at reading people. I can tell if someone is faking themselves or if they're being authentic like you. And you are a wonderful person underneath all that toughness. I wish more people got to see the sweet girl you really are instead of the cold and tough girl you portray yourself as.
Hyerim: You really are good at reading people. No one apart from me has ever been able to see the real me other than you. It's almost like you can read my mind...
Yeonjun: I may not be a mind-reader, but I'm good at spotting authenticity when I see it. And you are the epitome of authenticity. You've been hurt so much in the past that you decided to put up a tough exterior to protect yourself. Yet you still have a soft and sweet heart. I can also tell that you're the strong type who never asks for anyone's help.
Hyerim: How can you tell I'm the type who never asks for help? Do I really seem like that to you?
Yeonjun: It's kind of obvious. You act so tough and strong and independent so no one would guess that you're the softest person on the inside. You may not ask for anyone's help directly but you still secretly need people. Don't try to deny it. I know I'm right about that.
Hyerim: Ok I won't deny it. You're right. But the real question is, how do you know all this?
Yeonjun: I told you, I'm good at reading people. I can tell when someone is pretending and when someone is being authentic. And you are being a hundred percent authentic. You may act tough but deep down, you still love receiving care and attention. You just don't want to acknowledge it because you've always been on your own and you don't want to make yourself vulnerable.
