The days leading up to Maloi's fall break visit were a whirlwind of emotions for Colet. She was excited to see Maloi, but also anxious. Their relationship had been through so much already, and this visit felt like a pivotal moment. Could they reconnect and strengthen their bond, or would the distance between them continue to grow?

When the day finally arrived, Colet waited nervously at the bus station, watching as people disembarked. She spotted Maloi before Maloi saw her—a wave of relief and happiness washed over her. When their eyes finally met, both of them broke into wide smiles, and Colet ran to her.

"Maloi!" Colet exclaimed as she threw her arms around her.

Maloi hugged her tightly, and for a brief moment, everything felt perfect. They stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, blocking out the world around them.

"I've missed you so much," Maloi whispered, her voice tinged with emotion.

"I missed you too," Colet replied, holding on just a little longer before pulling back to look at Maloi's face.

They spent the rest of the day enjoying each other's company, visiting Colet's favorite spots around campus, and catching up on everything that had happened in the weeks they had been apart. Laughter flowed easily, and for a while, it felt like nothing had changed between them. But as the evening wore on, a sense of unease began to creep in.

---

Later that night, back at Colet's dorm, the two of them sat side by side on the bed, their conversation growing quieter as the tension they had both been avoiding finally surfaced.

"Colet," Maloi began, her tone serious, "I've been thinking a lot about what you told me—about Janelle."

Colet stiffened, her heart sinking. She had hoped they could avoid this topic, at least for tonight. "What about it?"

Maloi looked down at her hands before speaking. "It's not that I don't trust you. I do. But knowing that someone else has feelings for you... it's hard. Especially with the distance between us."

Colet reached out to take Maloi's hand, squeezing it gently. "I understand, Maloi. I've been honest with you because I want us to be strong together. I'm committed to you, and I always will be."

Maloi nodded, though her expression remained troubled. "I know. But I can't help but worry that things might change. We're both growing and experiencing new things, and sometimes I wonder if we can really keep this up."

Colet's heart ached at the uncertainty in Maloi's voice. "Maloi, I love you. We've faced so many challenges already, and we've come out stronger each time. I believe we can get through this too."

Maloi looked into Colet's eyes, searching for reassurance. "Do you really think so?"

Colet leaned in, pressing her forehead against Maloi's. "I know so."

For a moment, the tension lifted, and they shared a soft, lingering kiss. But deep down, both of them knew that words alone wouldn't be enough. They needed to rebuild the trust and closeness that had been strained by distance and doubts.

The next few days were a mix of highs and lows. There were moments when it felt like nothing had changed between them—when they laughed and enjoyed each other's company like old times. But there were also moments when the weight of unspoken fears hung heavily between them.

One evening, as they sat together in Colet's dorm, Maloi turned to Colet with a hesitant expression. "Colet, can we talk about the future?"

Colet's heart skipped a beat. "Of course. What's on your mind?"

Maloi took a deep breath. "I've been offered an opportunity to extend my research program for another semester. It's a big deal, and it could open up a lot of doors for me. But it also means I'll be even busier, and we'll be apart for even longer."

Colet's stomach dropped. Another semester of long-distance? The thought was daunting, but she knew how important this was to Maloi. "That's amazing, Maloi. I'm so proud of you. But... are you sure that's what you want? I mean, another semester of being apart—it's going to be tough."

Maloi bit her lip, clearly conflicted. "I want this opportunity, but I don't want to lose us in the process. I'm scared, Colet. I don't want to wake up one day and realize that we've drifted too far apart."

Colet's mind raced as she tried to find the right words. She wanted to be supportive, but she also couldn't ignore the doubts that had been building in her own heart. "Maybe... maybe we need to figure out what we both really want. I love you, Maloi, but I don't want us to feel trapped in a situation that's hurting us."

Maloi looked at Colet with a mixture of fear and understanding. "Are you saying... we should take a break?"

The words hung in the air, heavy with possibility. Colet hadn't been sure of what she was suggesting until that moment, but now that it was out there, she realized it might be the only way to truly figure out where they stood.

"I don't know," Colet admitted, her voice soft. "Maybe we need some time to focus on ourselves and see where we're headed. I'm not saying I want to end things, but... maybe we need to step back and reevaluate."

Maloi's eyes filled with tears, and Colet's heart broke at the sight. "I don't want to lose you, Colet."

Colet wrapped her arms around Maloi, holding her close. "You won't lose me. No matter what happens, you'll always be a part of my life. But I think we both need to figure out what's best for us, as individuals and as a couple."

They sat in silence for a long time, wrapped in each other's arms, both grappling with the difficult decision that lay ahead. Neither of them wanted to let go, but they knew that sometimes, love meant making hard choices.

And as the night wore on, they realized that the next chapter of their story would be one of the toughest yet—one that would test their love in ways they had never imagined.
