Emma's heart pounded as Adrian stepped in front of her, shielding her from the men. She could see the tension in his body, the way his muscles tensed as if preparing for a fight.

"Stay behind me," Adrian whispered, his voice low and urgent.

"What's going on?" Emma asked, her voice trembling.

"I'll explain later," he said. "Just trust me."

Before she could protest, the men lunged at Adrian. He moved quickly, expertly dodging their blows and countering with swift strikes of his own. It was like watching a choreographed fight scene from a movie, but this was real, and Emma was terrified.

Within minutes, Adrian had taken down all three men, leaving them groaning on the ground. He grabbed Emma's hand and pulled her towards the car.

"We need to go. Now."

They sped off into the night, the tires screeching as Adrian pushed the car to its limits. Emma's mind was racing as fast as the car, trying to piece together what had just happened.

"Who were those men?" she asked, glancing nervously at the rearview mirror.

"People I used to work for," Adrian said, his voice tight with anger. "I owe them money. A lot of money."

Emma's stomach churned. She had thought she was getting to know Adrian, but now it felt like he was a stranger. She had no idea what he had gotten himself into, but she knew one thing for sure—she was in danger, too.
