Devran.

I hated change of scenery. we were leaving our life in Alacati and heading to Istanbul. a place of new opportunities, as my father used to say. Iskender Karan, a man who had never shown his benevolence in the 18 years of my life, suddenly shone. the severity that burned in his eyes suddenly disappeared and for a moment I even thought that he was not my father. it is strange how a person can doubt the love of his own father. but I did.

Throughout my existence, I have been rethinking what is wrong with me. why do we live in the bitter cold when it is spring outside? why did Iskender Karan give his life for some gambling? the trauma of a little boy, you say? the fire of hatred, I say.

My mother got into the car, leaning her head against the window, enjoying the view. we were on our way to Istanbul to start a new life. at least that's what my father had promised us. his sly smile all the way, the classical music and the smell of cigarettes confused me.

As soon as we got out of the car, she came out of a neighboring house. curly red hair, delicate skin that glistened in the sun, brown eyes and facial features I had never seen on anyone else. she noticed my books, but she didn't have time to see me. a green-eyed blonde girl came up to her, fixing her hair and they walked towards the bus stop. For two minutes, until their silhouettes disappeared, I looked at her like a child who saw candy for the first time

Who was she, what was her name, why were her eyes full of tears?

So many questions ran through my mind until a cold, hoarse voice interrupted the moment.

- Devran. Devran, come here.

- Yes, I'm coming.

We entered our new home, looked inside, and were swallowed up by silence.

- "New house, new story," my father said, smiling slyly.

My mother smiled, though there was pain in her eyes. pain that I had seen all these years. pain that had never gone away.
I went to my room, grabbed my backpack and denim jacket and headed to the new lyceum. a clean slate. that's what awaited us.

I walked into the lyceum yard, withstanding all the stares of the girls. walking up the stairs, I could not believe my eyes. red hair, brown eyes. again.

I fought back the ants that were crawling on my skin, my heart was beating out of my chest, I walked up and only two words came out of my mouth.

- Devran Karan.

Her tear-filled eyes suddenly shone. i had never seen anything cuter. her hair was blowing in the wind and her voice penetrated my skin.

- Esme. Just Esme.
