The next day at school, the air between Suga and Y/N was charged with the warmth of their blossoming relationship. Everything felt brighter, and Suga couldn't keep the smile off his face. They had shared their first kiss and confessed their feelings, and for the first time in a long while, Suga felt like he was on the right path.During lunch, Suga met up with his friends, Jungkook, Jimin, and Taehyung, at their usual spot by the basketball courts. They were a tight-knit group, known for their teasing and pranks, but Suga had always found solace in their company—until today.
As Suga approached, he noticed something off in the way his friends were huddled together, laughing and whispering to one another. When he reached them, they fell silent, glancing at each other before Jungkook spoke up, a mischievous grin on his face.
"Yo, Suga! So, how's your little project going?" Jungkook teased a glint of something malicious in his eyes.
Suga tensed, instantly regretting ever telling his friends about the bet. "What are you talking about?" he asked, trying to play it cool.
Jungkook exchanged a look with Jimin, who snickered. "You know, Y/N," Jimin said, dragging out her name. "How's it going making her fall for you? I mean, she's practically eating out of your hand, right?"
Taehyung chimed in, "It's a bit sad, though, don't you think? I mean, it's not like she has many other options. Maybe that's why she's clinging to you."
Suga's heart sank as his friends continued to mock Y/N. The way they talked about her, as if she was just some object to be played with, made his blood boil. But what made it worse was the sickening realization that he had once been part of this—had started it, even.
Jungkook smirked, clearly enjoying the situation. "And what about her little sidekick, Luna? They're always together, like some pathetic duo. Can't one of them stand on their own?"
Jimin and Taehyung laughed, adding more cruel comments, each word like a dagger to Suga's heart. He was about to tell them off when he noticed Y/N and Luna approaching from a distance, holding trays of food.
"Guys, stop," Suga said, his voice low but firm. He glanced back at Y/N, who was getting closer. "Seriously, just stop it."
But they didn't stop. Jungkook laughed, oblivious to the change in Suga's tone. "Come on, Suga. Don't tell me you're actually catching feelings for her. You know it was just a bet."
"Yeah, man," Jimin added, chuckling. "It's all just fun. Don't get soft on us now."
"Shut up!" Suga snapped, louder this time, his eyes blazing with anger. His sudden outburst shocked his friends into silence, but it was too late. Y/N had heard them.
She stopped in her tracks, her face paling as the reality of what they had been saying hit her like a truck. Luna, standing beside her, looked just as shocked, her mouth slightly open in disbelief.
"Suga..." Y/N's voice was barely a whisper, trembling with hurt.
Suga's heart plummeted. "Y/N, I..."
But Y/N didn't let him finish. She dropped her tray, the sound of the plastic clattering against the pavement cutting through the silence like a blade. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she shook her head, as if refusing to believe what she had just heard.
"How could you?" Y/N's voice broke as she spoke, and without waiting for an answer, she turned and ran, leaving Suga standing there, frozen in place. Luna hesitated for only a moment before rushing after her friend, calling out her name.
For a moment, the world seemed to stand still. Suga felt like he was suffocating, his chest tight with guilt and regret. He wanted to run after Y/N, to explain, to make her understand that what they had was real, despite how it started. But his feet wouldn't move, and the weight of his friends' eyes on him kept him rooted in place.
Jungkook, Jimin, and Taehyung stood there, still trying to process what had just happened. Jungkook was the first to speak, his voice lacking its usual confidence. "Suga, man... what was that about?"
Suga turned to face them, his expression hard. "You guys are idiots," he spat, his voice laced with venom. "You don't get it at all."
"Hey, we were just messing around," Taehyung said defensively, though his tone was uncertain. "We didn't mean anything by it."
"Well, it wasn't funny," Suga snapped. "Not to me, and definitely not to Y/N. She's not some toy or project. She's a person, and I... I love her."
His confession hung in the air, heavy with truth. Suga didn't wait for their reactions. Without another word, he turned and ran after Y/N, his heart pounding with fear that he might have lost her for good.
Suga searched everywhere for Y/N, but she had disappeared. He tried calling her, but she didn't answer. Panic set in, his mind racing with worst-case scenarios. He eventually found Luna sitting on a bench in the school's garden, her eyes red from crying.
"Luna," Suga panted, running up to her. "Where's Y/N? Please, I need to find her."
Luna looked up at him, her expression a mix of anger and sadness. "Why should I tell you? Haven't you hurt her enough?"
Suga flinched at her words but didn't back down. "I know I messed up, okay? I know. But I love her, Luna. I didn't mean for any of this to happen. Please, just tell me where she is."
Luna studied him for a long moment, as if trying to determine whether he was being sincere. Finally, she sighed, her shoulders slumping. "She ran to the old tree by the soccer field. It's where she goes when she needs to be alone."
"Thank you," Suga said, his voice filled with gratitude. He turned to leave but then paused, looking back at Luna. "I'm sorry, Luna. For everything."
Without waiting for her response, Suga sprinted toward the soccer field. The old tree was a place he had seen Y/N retreat to before, and he prayed that she would still be there.
When he finally reached the field, he saw her sitting under the tree, her knees drawn up to her chest, her face buried in her arms. She looked so small, so fragile, and Suga's heart shattered at the sight.
He approached her slowly, not wanting to startle her. "Y/N..." he called softly, his voice trembling with emotion.
She didn't look up, but he could see her shoulders shaking with silent sobs. He knelt beside her, reaching out to gently touch her arm.
"Please, Y/N," Suga whispered, his voice cracking. "Let me explain."
Y/N finally looked up, her eyes red and puffy from crying. "Explain what?" she said, her voice hoarse. "That it was all a lie? That I was just some stupid bet to you and your friends?"
"It wasn't like that," Suga insisted, his own eyes filling with tears. "At first, yes, it was a bet, and I was stupid for going along with it. But everything changed, Y/N. I changed. I started falling for you... and now, I'm completely in love with you. The bet doesn't matter anymore. You matter."
Y/N shook her head, fresh tears spilling down her cheeks. "How can I believe you? How can I ever trust you again?"
Suga felt his heart break at her words, knowing he had no right to ask for her forgiveness. But he couldn't give up on her—not when he had finally found someone who made him feel alive.
"I know I don't deserve your trust right now," Suga said, his voice thick with emotion. "But I'm begging you, Y/N... give me a chance to prove that I'm telling the truth. I'll do anything. Just... don't leave me."
Y/N stared at him for a long time, her eyes searching his for any sign of deceit. Finally, she looked away, her expression conflicted. "I need time, Suga. I can't just forget what happened."
Suga nodded, his heart heavy but hopeful. "Take all the time you need. I'll be here, waiting for you. I won't give up on us."
Y/N didn't respond, but she didn't pull away when Suga gently took her hand in his. They sat there together under the old tree, the weight of the truth hanging between them, threatening to tear them apart. But for now, they held on to the fragile hope that love might still find a way to mend what had been broken.
