[Your Name] walked down the familiar route to Sakuragaoka High, phone in hand, exchanging messages with her childhood friend, . He had been her closest friend for years, always a bit grumpy and rough around the edges, but someone she could rely on. She could practically picture him pouting as he typed, complaining about how miserable school was without her.
Yuuto: Morning. How's life at your new school?
[Your Name]: You know I miss hanging out with you. How's your day so far?
Yuuto: Ugh. It sucks. Everything's boring without you. And these idiots in class drive me crazy. I still can't believe you left me here alone.
[Your Name]: I didn't want to, you know that... Things just happened. But hey, you're tough you'll survive.
Yuuto: I guess. But it's still the worst. No one gets me like you do.
[Your Name] smiled softly at his message. Yuuto's grumpy, lost-puppy act was something she had grown used to over the years. He was always complaining, but deep down, she knew he cared.
[Your Name]: I'm sure you'll find something to keep you busy. Gotta go now I'm at school. Talk later? Bye!
Yuuto: Yeah, fine. Don't forget about me.
She chuckled at his last message before tucking her phone away as she stepped through the school gates. Just as she did, a familiar cheerful voice called out.
"Hey, [Your Name]!" Hana waved, a big smile on her face. "Ready for another exciting day of school?"
[Your Name] grinned back. "As ready as I'll ever be. What's up?"
"Nothing much, but I was thinking, have you thought any more about joining a club?" Hana asked, immediately diving into her favorite topic. "You really should! I bet you'd have a lot of fun."
"I haven't decided yet, but I'll probably check some out soon," [Your Name] replied, walking alongside her.
"Well, you know I'm always here to help! There's a ton of stuff you could join, but I still think you'd love the cooking club," Hana said with an encouraging nudge. "We've got a really good group, and you'd fit right in."
[Your Name] nodded as they reached their classroom. As they settled in, the students were already buzzing with conversation. While putting her things away, [Your Name] noticed a boy searching frantically through his desk, a look of frustration on his face.
"Where is it...?" the boy muttered under his breath.
"Hey, are you looking for something?" [Your Name] asked, stepping closer.
The boy looked up, revealing soft, tired eyes behind messy dark bangs. "My pen... I can't find it anywhere."
"Oh, is this it?" [Your Name] held out a pen she saw lying under a nearby chair.
His eyes widened slightly in surprise. "Yeah, that's it. Thanks..." He took the pen, his voice soft, barely above a whisper.
"No problem! I'm [Your Name], by the way."
"Kaito... ," he responded, giving a small nod before retreating back into his seat, his expression almost distant.
As [Your Name] returned to her own seat, Hana leaned over and whispered, "You know that's Kaito Mori, right? He's kind of the school's resident weirdo. Always keeps to himself and talks about weird stuff like ghosts and curses."
[Your Name] glanced back at Kaito, who was now staring out the window, completely lost in his own world. "He seems harmless enough," she whispered back. "Maybe just shy?"
