Iris slowly walked through the high school halls, holding her books in her hands. She wore a white polar neck with a blue pleated skirt and had her long brown hair in a bun. She glanced at her watch and realized that she had one minute to get to her class which was about 15 classrooms away. She panicked and quickened her tiny steps and got to her classroom seconds before the bell rang. She signed in relief as she took her seat. She had never been late for class and she was not planning on breaking that record any time soon.

As she took out her books the teacher appeared through the back door. Everyone in the class stood up to great her and sat back down. Iris placed her English text book and note book on her white desk as the teacher wrote the day's lesson on the board. Halfway through the lesson, the door to the classroom opened and a young male only a few years older than herself walked in. His hair was the lightest shade of brown Iris had ever seen and his eyes were so dark. Iris stared at him intrigued as he walked up to the teacher.

"Everyone, this is Ace. He will be joining us for the rest of the school year" The teacher introduced him

"Miss aren't we halfway through the year already?" A brunette named Leah asked. She was a very close friend of Iris and the two shared almost everything.

"Well that is true Leah. But Ace is a smart kid. I'm sure he'll catch up soon" The teacher said as she looked over to him. He stared at her blankly and did not respond. "Well Ace, make yourself comfortable" She said, gesturing over to the empty seats in the class. He looked around for a minute till his eyes settled on the empty desk near Iris.

Iris shifted uncomfortably as he sat down beside her. There was something about him that she couldn't quite place her finger on it. Maybe it was the way he held his black backpack. Or the way her stared so coldly and quietly into space. Something. There was just something about this guy. She studied him carefully as the lesson went on as if he was a suspect of a murder incident. She noted every move he made during that class as if to say 'Aha! I knew you were no good'

She was so deep in thought that she did not realize that she was being asked a question by the teacher. It was not until Ace gently kicked her foot and brought her back to reality.

"Oh Uhh Sorry could you repeat that?" Iris asked

"Iris, cold you give us an example of a noun? That's Grade One material it shouldn't be that hard." The teacher said, clearly annoyed at her.

"Umm.." Iris said as she tried to think but half of her head was nowhere near the classroom. "Food?" She asked

"What food?" The teacher asked, wanting her to be more specific

"Pizza" Iris with an awkward chuckle

The teacher glared at her as the bell rang. How hard was it to name a noun. Even a Kindergartener could do it. Iris signed as the bell rang and turned to Ace.

"Thanks" She said. He just got up, slung his backpack over his shoulder and left. Iris just stood there, wandering why he just did that. Leah jumped out of nowhere pulling Iris with her.

"Girl we have to get to art class. Or do you plan on skipping today huh?" Leah asked with a mischievous smirk

"What hell no. Let's go" Iris said and took her bag. As she walked out with Leah she couldn't help but wonder about Ace......
