"𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘢 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵, right? and 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳?" she inquired of Elijah‚ her fiancé's brother‚ with curiosity and a hint of mischievous fascination in her mind.

"𝘠𝘦𝘴‚ 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦," he said, his words bearing an unexpected weight, a sense of melancholy that astonished her.

Weeks slipped into one another‚ with each day marking the countdown to her wedding. As she walked down the aisle, a vision of ethereal beauty in her white gown, she saw Elijah's steadfast stare on her. A single tear, a pearl of unshed grief, fell from his eye, and he quickly wiped it away, attempting a tight and brittle grin. As she resumed her mournful procession, Elijah's heart, enslaved to a love that crossed centuries, could not take the sight any longer.

The vision of her, the lady he had been supposed to marry in a previous life, now standing before him, committing her vows to someone else, was a cruel twist of fate. In that previous life, an accident claimed both of their lives, bringing a devastating end to a love that had bloomed in the gardens of their shared aspirations. He moved away, his movements slow and deliberate, a nonverbal acknowledgement of an unattainable love.
