One day, my mom told me a story.
There was this star, which shined very brightly in the sky. It was called Sun. It would come everyday, bringing the light into the lives, warmth into the soul, life into the plants, reflection into the waves, most importantly, it would bring hope into the mankind.
It gave everything, just for a few hours, perhaps.
And then, it went back again, turning the earth into havoc. Leaving everything in darkness, snatching the life and leaving the death.
For a 7 year old kid who had no idea that, that star, called as sun never actually disappears, was very worried about the life on earth.
Because she was a part of the life too, her dad was too and so was her mom, her family.
So, ofcourse she asked her, terrified of life ending,"What happened then?"
She smiled warmly at me, the only memory where she actually smiled. That memory somehow didn't faze. She pulled me into her lap, securing me with her arms around my waist.
I reflect her smile and her eyes soften,"It came back again, the next morning. " she whispers.
"How?" I ask somehow furious with the sun lying about it's dissappearance.
"Because it promised. It promised that it would return back again. And promises once made can never be broken"
I didn't get it that day. But I do, now.
I don't know about the stars, galaxy, world, nor about it's promises or agreements. I didn't care about the world that didn't had him anymore.
He was my sun, my star.
I always revolved around him. And when he went back, leaving me in the depths of darkness. But I didn't fear the world with no light, no him. Because he said he would always come back.
Only, this time. He didn't.
I waited, waited and waited.
The fire burned him, the earth swallowed him, the air took the remains of him, the rain spalshed onto him, and yet. They weren't enough to make her believe he wouldn't come back to her.
A hand brings me back into the real world.
"You alright?" Neha frowns at me, placing her hand on my shoulder gently.
I nod. She nods back at me," You have been looking at that camp fire for minutes now."
I look back at the camp fire. I am not going to say her about what I was thinking. I don't want them to be concerned for me anymore, so I shake my head in no. She looks unconvinced but doesn't drag it. I breath in relief.
"You wanna join in cooking?" She asks.
"No, I am just too tired" I force myself to talk in more than two syllables.
