Aleena was overwhelmed with anxiety, struggling to understand if what was happening was reality, some cruel joke, or a nightmare. She couldn't believe the situation she found herself in. Ayaan, seeing her confusion, explained coldly, "This marriage is just a contract. I only agreed to it for the sake of my family's happiness. And as you can see, the contract clearly states that there will be no physical interaction or any real connection between us—it's solely for the appearance of a marriage to keep our families content. I assumed you agreed to this marriage with the same understanding. Isn't that right? So, just sign the contract where I've already signed."
Aleena was taken aback by his words. Her heart sank as she realized the gravity of what he was asking. With disbelief and hurt in her voice, she responded, "You've turned something as sacred as Nikah into a joke."
Ayaan, with a slight, almost mocking smile, asked, "Why? Are you in love with me?"
Aleena's eyes flashed with anger and pain as she replied, "If it weren't for the weight of my family's honor and the gratitude I owe, I would never sign this contract. And I would never have agreed to marry someone like you." Her words were laced with the bitterness of betrayal and disappointment, knowing that she had been thrust into a situation that stripped away the sanctity and respect she had hoped to find in her marriage.
Both Ayaan and Aleena, burdened by the situation, signed the contract. The atmosphere in the room was heavy with unresolved emotions. Ayaan, true to his distant and detached nature, chose to sleep on the couch, leaving Aleena alone on the bed.
As Ayaan turned away, trying to block out the reality of what had just transpired, Aleena lay on the bed, tears silently streaming down her face. The weight of her fate pressed down on her, the tears flowing not just for the contract she had signed, but for the dreams and hopes she had once held for her marriage.
The night was long, with Aleena crying herself to sleep, grappling with the cold reality of her new life. Ayaan, though physically present in the same room, seemed a world apart, lost in his own thoughts, both of them caught in a marriage that felt more like a cage than a union.
