"Hey, look over there" She says while pointing in the right direction.
I tilt my head slightly, my voice soft but filled with curiosity, "What... what is there?" I ask
"An ant" she says, grinning before bursting into loud, joyful laughter.
"You know, maybe you should see a psychiatrist," I say with a playful smirk. "You might have a serious disorder," I add, my tone is light but teasing.
"Really? A psychiatrist?" she shoots back with a teasing smile. "Are you sure you're not just jealous of my quirks?"
"Jealous? Not even close," I reply with a chuckle. "I’m just making sure your quirks don’t get too out of hand!"
She ignores me, her gaze fixed on two children racing in the distance. Sighing deeply, she says, "Ahh, I miss my carefree life," her voice filled with nostalgia.
"Aren't you already carefree right now?" I ask, trying to understand.
"It's different. Have you ever really experienced it?" she replies, a hint of wistfulness in her voice.
I hesitate, knowing the truth—I’ve never known a carefree childhood. Not wanting to reveal this, I suggest, "Want to race to that end?"
"Can you even keep up with me?" she responds, her tone daring.
"You doubt it?" I say with a confident smirk.
"Then let’s see," she says, raising an eyebrow.
"Okay then, on the count of three," I say, excitement in my voice.
As I start counting, we both get ready. When I say "three," we sprint off. Running feels liberating, like breaking free from a cage. Even though I’ve never been a prisoner, it feels like the child within me, long restrained, is finally set free. I glance at Ayesha. She’s grinning, playfully urging me to catch up. Instead of feeling annoyed, I embrace the joy of the moment.
When we collapse beside each other, laughing and breathless, it’s an unexpected but wonderful feeling. Rivals for now, we’re simply enjoying a rare moment of carefree happiness together.
It’s an unusual sight for anyone who knows we’re enemies, but right now, I’m enjoying being with her, something I’ve never experienced before. Even though it’s just for a short while, I want to savor it as much as I can.
I turn my head and see Ayesha, eyes closed, lying on the grass with the sunlight warming her face. She opens her eyes and looks at me. "What are you looking at?" she asks with a hint of amusement.
"Nothing. I mean, you’re just lying there like that—" I reply, trying to explain.
"Gosh, you’re such a bore. Just lie down and see for yourself how good and refreshing it is," she says with a playful grin.
"Oh, okay," I say, and I lay down beside her.
The sunlight touches my face, and it feels soothing. The warmth seeps into me, making me feel relaxed and at peace. It’s a simple pleasure, one I didn’t realize I was missing.
"I used to lie like this at night with someone on the street," she says casually.
"What?" I ask, surprised.
"Oh, nothing. I was just rambling," she says quickly.
I’ve heard what she said.
I get up, snapping out of the dream-like haze.
