•Chapter One•

"I never thought it would be like this."

~

A gurney flew through the hospital's hallway. Nurses surrounded it, looking at the poor woman who layed in it. "What happened to her?" a nurse asked the doctor.

He looked back up at her. "Vampire attack."

~

"None of us expected it to be this way, Crystal. You just have to accept these ways, though."

Crystal shot up from her seat, tears running down her eyes. "How am I supposed to accept this?! Accept the fact that vampires will kill us all?"

"Crystal-"

"No. I will never accept this. A vampire just attacked my mother. What...What if I'm next?" Crystal looked at the nurse , hope in her eyes. "Do you think we'll be able to stop them?"

The nurse sighed, and looked at Crystal. "We live in an unequal world, now. They have the higher power. Do you really think we'd be able to stop them? They're strong, and we're weak. Ten of our men would equal their strength."

Crystal looked at the floor, and sat back down. "Is my mother going to live?"

~

"GET HER INTO A ROOM, NOW!" the doctor yelled, frantically. "SHE'S BLEEDING TO MUCH!"

The nurses rushed the lady into a room, and put a pullseox on her finger. "Her heart beat is slowing down," the nurse informed. She looked up at them. "She won't make it."

~

Another nurse rushed into the room Crystal and the other nurse was in. "We have news about your mother, Crystal Evans."

Crystal stood up and looked at her. "What is it?" she asked.

The nurse gave her a sad look. "She's dead."

~

"Hey! Drew! What are you going?!" a man with blond hair and brown eyes asked a man with black hair and green eyes.

Drew 's dark eyes looked at him. "Why do you care, Cole?" he asked, coldly.

Cole put his hands up in defense. "Hey, hey. I'm just wondering. I didn't think you got your period this early!" Cole laughed.

Drew 's eye twitched, and he put his fist in a ball. "Idiot." He threw a punch at Cole's head, but Cole ducked. Drew scowled and said, "Next time I won't miss."

~

Crystal looked back at the nurse. She put a hand on Crystal's shoulder, and her look softened. "Crystal, it might be a good idea to move to France. It's the only safe place."

Crystal looked down, and shook her head. "I'm not leaving America. It's my home." Crystal stood up and left the room.

"Crystal!" the nurse yelled. "At least think about moving there."

"Fine." Crystal put a finger on her chin, then looked at the nurse. "Thought about it. I'm staying."

The nurse sighed and smirked. "Stubborn. Just like her mother."

~

Crystal entered into her old house, seeing her two little siblings fighting. "Hey! Stop fighting you two." They grinned at her and ran off. She rolled her eyes and yelled, "Dad! I'm home!"

Then she heard her little brother scream, followed by her sister's scream. "Crystal!" she heard her dad's voice. "Get to France, now!"

Crystal ran into the living room, but wish she hadn't. Her father's blood was everywhere. All because of the thing standing in the middle of the room. Her eyes flashed around, trying to find her little sister and brother. She saw her sister laying in the corner in the room, dead. But she didn't see her brother. She looked at the thing standing in the middle of the room. "Stupid vampires," she whispered. He turned around and smirked. Her eyes widened, and she ran into the kitchen. "Dylan?!" she called for her little brother.

She seen something crawl out from the closet. "Crystal?" her little brother asked.

Crystal sighed of relief, and put him into his arms. She ran into the basement, and put the password in for the secret room. She ran in there and closed the door quickly. She put him down on the floor, and he looked up at her. She stroked his hair, but jumped when she heard something hit the door. She gulped, and ran to the emergency exit. "Dylan, let's go. We have to be quiet, though. No crying or screaming, no matter what," she told him. He nodded in reply.

They climbed into the emergency exit, which was a tunnel. Crystal closed the door, and followed behind her little brother. "Crystal, where are we going to go?" her brother asked her.

"We're going to-"

Suddenly, there was a big bang at the beginning of the tunnel. Both of them froze, and looked back. They heard something stomp into the tunnel, making an echo sound. Crystal froze and looked ahead at her scared, shocked brother's face. "Dylan," she whispered. "Go!"

He looked at her, and shook his head. His eyes widened more, when the pounding sound got closer. "He's getting closer," Dylan whispered, clearly panicked. Crystal could see he was freaking out, but she didn't know what to do. He was frozen on the spot. She bit her bottom lip, and her eyes searched the tunnel. Her eyes landed on a vent that led to her bedroom. She crawled over to it, and popped the top up. She looked at Dylan, and crawled over to him. She put her arms around his waist, and dragged him to the vent. "Dylan," she started, "I'm going to put you through this vent, okay? You're going to be fine. Just calm down."

He looked at her and asked, "Really?" Crystal put him through the vent, and sat him on the bed beneath. She smiled down at him, and nodded. He smiled up, "Now you come down!"

She nodded, and put one of her feet through the vent. But before she could put her second floor through, she felt a hand on her arm. Her eyes widened, and she turned her head. She was looking into eyes that were red like blood. She felt herself being pulled out of the vent, and being dragged through the tunnel. She screamed, and she could hear her brother yelling her name.

She looked back at the vent, and a tear ran down her eye. "Is this the end of humans?" she whispered to herself.
