Morning light filtered through the large windows of Neuvillette's office, casting a gentle glow over the room. Wriothesley and Neuvillette had fallen asleep in an embrace, the comfort and warmth of each other's presence having lulled them into a peaceful slumber.Wriothesley was the first to wake, stirring slowly as he became aware of the soft, steady rhythm of Neuvillette's breathing against his chest. He glanced around the office, taking in the early morning quiet and the faint scent of rain still lingering from the night before. He turned his head slightly, looking down at Neuvillette, who was still nestled against him. The sight of the scales peeking out from beneath Neuvillette's clothes brought a rush of tenderness to Wriothesley's heart.
Carefully extricating himself from the embrace without waking Neuvillette, Wriothesley stretched and then gently shook Neuvillette's shoulder. "Neuvillette," he whispered softly, "it's time to wake up."
Neuvillette stirred, his eyes fluttering open, and he looked up at Wriothesley with a sleepy smile. "Wriothesley...?"
"Yes," Wriothesley said, smiling back. "I was hoping we could talk about last night."
Neuvillette's expression shifted to one of mild apprehension as he slowly sat up. "I'm sorry for any distress I caused you. I... I should explain what happened."
Wriothesley shook his head, placing a reassuring hand on Neuvillette's still somewhat scaly cheek. "There's no need to apologize. I want to understand. So, what's going on with you?"
Neuvillette took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. "I'm the Hydro Dragon Sovereign. I can't fully transform into a dragon, but when I'm overwhelmed or extremely stressed, my scales, claws, and tail appear. I've been hiding this part of myself because I didn't want anyone to think of me as a monster."
Wriothesley's eyes widened slightly, but he quickly masked his surprise with a gentle smile. "You don't need to worry about that. I'm glad you told me."
Neuvillette, feeling a mixture of relief and anxiety, started to apologize again. "I'm really sorry if I scared you or—"
Wriothesley cut him off gently. "Actually, there's something I wanted to ask you."
Neuvillette looked up, curious. "What is it?"
Wriothesley took a deep breath, his gaze softening. "Can I kiss you?"
Neuvillette blinked, momentarily taken aback. His face turned a light shade of pink, but he nodded without hesitation. "Yes."
With a tender smile, Wriothesley cupped Neuvillette's face in his hands, his thumbs gently brushing against Neuvillette's cheeks. He leaned in slowly, his lips meeting Neuvillette's in a gentle, heartfelt kiss. Neuvillette, though a bit hesitant, responded in kind, trying to match Wriothesley's slow and tender rhythm. The kiss deepened slightly, both men savoring the new intimacy between them.
When they finally pulled apart, Wriothesley's cheeks were flushed with a mix of warmth and shyness. "You know," he said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper, "for someone with no experience, you're a really good kisser."
Neuvillette's face turned an even deeper shade of pink, and he looked down, unable to meet Wriothesley's gaze. "Thank you," he managed to murmur, feeling flustered but incredibly happy.
Their moment of shared warmth was abruptly interrupted by Wriothesley's phone ringing. He fumbled for it, quickly answering the call. It was the Chief of Police, inquiring about his whereabouts.
Wriothesley winced as he heard the impatient tone on the other end. "I'm so sorry, Chief. I—uh—I lost track of time."
Neuvillette watched with a sympathetic smile as Wriothesley tried to placate his superior. Once the call ended, Wriothesley looked sheepish but resigned. "I'm afraid I'm running late for work."
Neuvillette nodded, his own smile fading slightly as he felt a pang of disappointment. "We should both get back to our duties. But I really enjoyed our time together."
Wriothesley smiled warmly. "I did too. And remember, I'd never think you're a monster. You're too beautiful for that."
Neuvillette's heart fluttered at the compliment, and he nodded gratefully. "Thank you, Wriothesley. It means a lot to me."
Wriothesley reluctantly stood up, smoothing out his clothes. "I guess I should head home and get ready for work. I'll see you soon, alright?"
Neuvillette nodded, watching as Wriothesley left the office. He stood by the window, reflecting on the kiss and the tender words exchanged. His heart was full, but he couldn't help but feel a bit wistful.
As Wriothesley departed, soaked from the rain but with a spring in his step, Neuvillette couldn't help but think about how much he looked forward to seeing him again. The kiss had been a significant step forward, and despite his initial worries, he felt a newfound sense of hope.
Later that day, Furina visited Neuvillette's office, her face glowing with excitement. "So, how did it go? I heard a little about the situation from Wriothesley and couldn't help but wonder how things turned out."
Neuvillette hesitated, then smiled. "It went well. We had a... meaningful conversation and spent some time together."
Furina's eyes sparkled with delight. "Meaningful, huh? I take it that the kiss went well?"
Neuvillette's cheeks flushed again. "Yes, it did. I... I enjoyed it more than I expected."
Furina clapped her hands together, grinning from ear to ear. "I'm so glad to hear that! You both deserve some happiness. Just remember to take things one step at a time."
Neuvillette nodded, feeling a sense of reassurance. "Thank you, Furina. I'll keep that in mind."
As the day progressed, Neuvillette felt a sense of calm and happiness he hadn't experienced in a long time. Despite the challenges ahead, the connection he had with Wriothesley provided him with a renewed sense of hope and excitement for the future.
The rain had stopped, leaving behind a refreshed and glistening city, mirroring the new beginning that Neuvillette felt was on the horizon.
