In those four hours from 2am-6am, Diana just couldn't sleep. She nodded off for thirty minutes at around 4am and that was it, she just couldn't get herself to find the peace the sleep.
It didn't matter if it was dreamless, it was too peaceful, how could she sleep when one of her best friends could have been harmed and all she did was lay in her bed, doing nothing?
Before Diana got ready for school she she rubbed the last of her tiredness out of her eyes as she pulled out her tarot cards, shuffling the stack repeatedly, hoping that the cards that fell out were desirable. She repeated soft pleas under her breath as she knocked on the deck and stared down at her desk which was decorated with crystals and sigils.
She looked out her window for a moment still seeing no movement from Georg's room as the sun started to come up. Anxiety continued to bubble in her as she saw that the card that fell out was the eight of swords.
Diana was asking about Georg's well being and future and the deck lets the eight of swords to fall out? She grumbled and shook her head continuing to shuffle the deck and ignored the card, it was completely unrelated to her issue right now, she really needed to practice her readings more.
Under her breath she just kept mumbling soft begs to the universe that whatever she saw last night was a figment of her imagination.
The in a few minutes Georg was going to show up at her door with that tired morning look and she could let out a sigh of relief but 6am came and went with no doorbell ring. She rubbed her temples and stared at her lit candles, her little protection bottles for each of her friends all lined up on her desk.
She took the little protection bottle that was tied with a green string, indicating it to be Georg's bottle, she held it tied in her fist and mumbled soft assurances, soft pleas to the universe or anyone who would listen, that she was just overthinking all of this an Georg just overslept. "Please please just let him be okay, he's okay"
Maybe it was out of desperation or anxiety but she took the green string of the bottle and tied it to her protection bottle, her luck, her protection everything would be shared with him. She looked out her window, 6.30am hit, half an hour and far later than Georg would ever show up, he was never this late and he would always call if he was sick of skipping school.
Diana packed her bag and took a banana that she didn't have the appetite to stomach , as she ran her finger through her hair, finally, the doorbell rang.
Diana ran to the door and saw a very tired looking Georg leaning on the door frame, his pale skin was paler than usual, his bright green eyes, usually bright and lively were surrounded by dark eye rings that just made him look gaunt, his eyes had a hundred yard stare, like he had seen things far beyond his years.
She stared at him, unsure what to say, what should she say?
"You look dead."
Georg chuckled softly as he rubbed his eyes and yawned loudly, unknowingly easing the worry in Diana's heart.
He was just tired, he just overslept for longer than usual.
Diana let out a silent sigh of relief before passing him an apple from her fridge, it gave peace to know that whatever it was that she saw last night was juts in her head, nothing had hurt him and Georg was still going to pick her up to go to school for the next few months of school that they had left before graduation.
When she got into his old, broken down green truck she just had to voice at least some of her anxiety that had started to die down. "What's with the Tim Burton look?"
Georg leaned back in the driver's seat and started to car, the loud rumbling of the old engine piercing through the quiet autumn morning, his eyes half open, his lips dry and his hair completely disheveled, it was a sight for sore eyes. "Just had a nightmare last night, couldn't sleep well relax."
