Author's POV

In the Sharma house.

"Chutki (Ruhanika's nickname), chalo jaldi breakfast karo, tumhe offfice bhi jana hai" - Ruhanika's mami called her.

("Chutki, finish your breakfast fast, you have got to leave for office too")

"Ji" - she gives a short reply.

("Yes")

Ruhanika Mehta, she lives with her mama's family. And it is indeed a big family, as she lives with her mama (Manik), mami (Angali), their son (Shaurya), and his wife (Deepali) who is five months pregnant, and Ruhanika also has a younger sister (Tara). Tara is currently doing a 2 year internship, in a fashion industry.

Living with her mama and mami had always given her a sense of family after her parents' sudden, tragic death. But the weight of her unresolved questions never left her. These questions haunted her every waking moment, but for her sister's sake, she kept it buried. Tara didn't need to carry that weight.

Her parents died when she was 20, and her sister was just 16 back then. Right now, Ruhanika is 26 and Tara is 22.

Six years. Six long years of carrying a burden she hadn't shared with anyone, not even her sister. Her parents hadn't died in an accident—at least that's what her heart kept telling her.

And it's been roughly one year since she has been divorced.

Ruhanika's POV:

I am glad, I'm freed from that relationship. A relationship where there was no love, no respect, nothing, just money and desire for lust. It's been over a year since I got divorced, and to be very honest, I am more than happy.

"Beta eat," - mami places her hand over my hair, making me come out of my thoughts.

I nod and continue eating my food.

"I am in the car, ajana khana khatam karte, ok?" - Shaurya bhai tells me, smiling.

("I am in the car, come after completing it ok?")

He walks to bhabhi, and gives her a kiss on the forehead, and as mami walks into the kitchen, bhabhi gives bhai a kiss on his cheeks. It's funny, he flushes every time she kisses him. For someone who was always so confident and sharp at work, her brother turned into a shy teenager whenever his wife was around. I sometimes look at the baby bump and wonder how that happened with bhai being so shy. Like of course they had...

Stop, RUH, that's disgusting. They are your bhaiya bhabhi. EWWWW - my subconscious mind mocked me.

ANYWAYS, I must admit that bhai and bhabhi are the cutest. It's been 3 years since their wedding and now Deepali bhabhi is 5 months pregnant.

It was moments like this that gave her hope, despite her own failures in love. Maybe, just maybe, there was someone out there who could love her the way Shaurya loved Deepali. But then again, the scars from her past tugged at her heart. Love was complicated, and for her, it had been anything but a fairytale.

"Bye Deepu, mere dono baby's kaa dhyan rakhna, and call me if anything urgent, ok?" - he says the same thing every day, before leaving for work.

("Bye Deepu, take care of both my babies and call me if anything urgent, ok?")

I quickly finish my breakfast, and rush to the doorsteps where he is wearing his shoes.

I put my feet into my sandals, heels I don't prefer everyday, as they are very uncomfortable for daily use and I can't walk properly.

No girl can!

I sit in the passenger seat, as bhai sits in the driver's seat and starts driving.
