I tiptoed inside to see if Dad was home, and he was! I told him this morning that Mom was really mad, so he promised me he'd come home early. I jumped out to surprise him and gave him a big hug. He's always so busy with work that sometimes we don't get to spend much time together, but I know he's doing it all for us.
''aa gayi firse bheeg ke ye ladki''
''arre meera ji, meri bachi ko mat dantiye''
''haan haan sirf apki beti hai na, meri toh bhanji lagti hai''
we both laughed at her comment
''bas abhi hanslo fir jab tabiyat kharab ho tab pyare papa ko hi bulana apne''
I sneezed before she could say anything else, so I went straight to my room to change my clothes and dry my hair. When I came back, Mom and Dad were setting the dinner table together, so I didn't want to disturb their romantic moment, so I went back upstairs. I lay on my bed and started imagining the guy I met today. Everything felt so different with him. His eyes, his height, and he's such a soft-spoken person. Wait... I don't even know his name. While I was lost in my thoughts, Mom called me downstairs for dinner.
“Kesi chal rahi padhai beta?” (How’s your studies going, son?)
“As always, ekdum mast.” (As always, going great.)
“Beta, main abhi bhi keh raha, kuch aur kar le, fir mere business mein help karwa dena meri.” (Son, I’m still saying, do something else, then help me with my business.)
“Arre papa, business wagera nahi samajh aata mujhe.” (Oh dad, I don’t understand business stuff.)
“Haan haan, drawing banani hai.” (Yes, yes, you just want to draw.)
“Ab aap dono firse mat shuru ho jaeiye, Shivi ka jo man hai wo wahi karegi,” Mumma said. (Now you both don’t start again; Shivi will do what she wants.)
“Haan, maine kahan roka main, toh bas keh raha drawing bhi kar le, business mein bhi madad karde meri.” (Yes, I didn’t say to stop her; I’m just saying she should draw and also help me with the business.)
“Papa, aap jaante nahi ho ek ek painting kitne crores mein bikti hain.” (Dad, you don’t know how much each painting sells for in crores.)
“Bhagwan kare tum khoob successful ho beta, warna budhape ka koi sahar nahi hai.” (May God grant you great success, son; otherwise, there’s no support in old age.)
We all laughed at that.
After having our dinner, we all went to our rooms. While I was lying down on my bed, I remembered what Dad said today. Maybe I romanticize life a little bit, but it doesn't mean that I don't want to be successful., I want to by my own cosy house, i want to give my parents a much needed vacation as my dad always worked his entire life i I want him to enjoy with Momma. They both have worked so hard to provide everything that I needed, and in the future, I will make sure that I can do the same for them as well. I don't want to be dependent on anybody, even my husband. My parents always taught me the importance of independence, especially financial independence in the case of girls. Being a single girl child, I am proud of my parents and I'll make sure that one day they'll be proud of me as well.
I was about to fall asleep but all of a sudden i remembered, "I need to tell someone about this guy I met." So, I called Arjun, and he picked up right away, as usual. I told him everything that happened, and he was super excited too! He asked me what the guy's name was, but I told him I don't even know it yet. Maybe I'll ask him next time I see him. Maybe soon I'm gonna get my first ever boyfriend!!
