His smile hides a lie

She smiles back but it's a fact

That her fear will eat her alive

Well, she got the life that she wanted

But now all she does is cry

I looked over the locked door , the keys might be with Ranvijay or whoever was providing her with food , making it nearly impossible for me to get a hold on them. I looked around the dingy hallway for anything that might help with breaking the lock perhaps.

"T-The keys are with him . It won't open without them." The girl whispered , her voice cracking .

"Ranvijay ?." I asked , my heart thumping against my chest , though I knew she was referring to him but I needed to make sure.

"Y-Yes." She shivered at his name and started shaking terribly.

"H-He will come back." She cried her sobs echoed in the silence of the basement.

"He'll hurt me." Her tone was almost inaudible.

"How did you end up here ?" I managed to ask her sensing her fear of Ranvijay.

"I-I was caught in a wrong crowd and b-bad decisions led me into this hellhole." Her voice hoarse while she sobbed loudly.

"Relax , I'll find the keys and you'll be free. Okay." I reassured her while turning around to the exit of the basement.

I went upstairs in a haste , straight to the bedroom. Ranvijay was still not home and I sighed in relief. I rummaged through the drawers and cabinets of the closet but there was no sign of the keys . I was growing impatient by the passing second . The image of the girl downstairs was messing with my head.

With much courage and determination, I stepped into Ranvijay's study , my hands trembled as the cold air brushed my skin . I slowly walked around the large wooden table that was filled with documents and papers. I opened the drawer and searched through it carefully not disrupting the pattern in which the things were kept in it.

I checked the last two drawers with a heavy heart, if the keys were not in them then they were most certainly with Ranvijay. As I opened the last one, there laid a bunch of keys and I smiled in victory. I went back to the bedroom retrieving a hoodie and pants for her . I threw them in a duffle bag and put some cash in it. I called one of my friends asking for his favour and he agreed on sending his driver. Though he was oblivious to the fact that he was helping a captive in escaping.

I descended down the stairs leading to the basement with the bunch of keys tightly clutched in my hand. I checked the lock and saw a number written on it and tried finding the number on the keys . I finally found it and put the key inside the lock twisting it with my trembling fingers.

It opened with a click , the sound made the girl , Isha , look at me. I entered the cell , helping her to stand on her feet .

"I don't know h-how to thank you." She sniffled as she tightly held on to my hands.

"There's no need for that." I passed a weak smile to her.

"Come on, we don't have much time. I arranged a driver for you , he will take you to the outskirts of the city ." I told her what lay ahead for her . Staying in here would be dangerous for her .

"Here , wear these." I passed her the hoodie and pants . Her clothes were blood stained , it would make her a target if someone was to see her in those.
