October 31st
The apartment was a flurry of excitement as the girls prepared for a Halloween party. The air buzzed with energy, soft music played in the background, mingling with the sound of laughter and the occasional clatter of makeup brushes. In her room, Soph adjusted the halo above her head, the light catching the shimmer of her white dress, a perfect contrast to Em's devilish ensemble. Em's red corset hugged her in all the right places, the dark lipstick she wore only adding to the mischievous sparkle in her eyes.
Abigail stood before the mirror in her room, adjusting her police hat with a precise touch. Her costume was simple yet coordinated perfectly with Ethan's robber getup, a classic duo for the night's festivities. Juliette on the other hand wore a tight black mini skirt paired with a sharp suit jacket, with a sleek black tie, and dark sunglasses adding an air of mystery to her Men in Black costume.
As Soph and Em helped each other with their costumes, Juliette sat on the kitchen counter, her legs swinging as she chatted with Sully and Marco. Her tie hung loosely around her neck as she bantered with the guys.
Em walked into the kitchen, her devil horns perched perfectly on her head. "Em, help me tie this." Juliette called out, fiddling with the ends of her tie, a smirk playing on her lips.
With a knowing smile, Em crossed the room, positioning herself between Juliette's legs as she took hold of the tie. "You look beautiful tonight," Juliette complimented, her tone genuine and playful.
Em raised an eyebrow with a teasing smirk. "That would be really sweet if you could look at my eyes and not my boobs when you say that," she quipped, a glint of amusement in her eyes.
Juliette's laughter rang out, genuine and warm. "I can't help it," she replied, nudging Em's shoulder lightly. "They just look so good."
A soft scoff broke the moment, drawing their attention. Abigail stood in the doorway, her expression unreadable. Juliette's lips curled into a smirk, "What? Are you jealous, Abs?"
Abigail's eyes narrowed, and she rolled them with practiced indifference, her voice taut with restraint. "Yeah, you wish. I'm just ready to go." For a heartbeat, the two girls locked eyes, the unspoken tension thickening the air around them. It had been three weeks since everything went down between them. Juliette was fed up, her patience worn thin, while Abigail wrestled with her guilt and longing to mend things, unsure how to approach the rift she had created.
Sensing the tension that crackled in the space, Sully clapped his hands together, the sound breaking the spell. "Alright, let's get moving," he urged.
As they headed to the party, Soph slowed her pace, falling in step beside Juliette and subtly pulling her back from the others. Her voice was soft, laced with concern as she spoke. "When are you two going to fix whatever's going on between you?"
Juliette shrugged, her expression indifferent. "Whenever she comes to me. This is her problem to fix, not mine."
Soph sighed, giving Juliette a sad, knowing smile, the ache of watching her two best friends drift apart gnawing at her.
The party was in full swing when they arrived, the house thrumming with energy and laughter. They grabbed drinks and drifted toward the dance floor, each girl trying to lose herself in the pulse of the music, the flash of lights, and the press of the crowd.
Later that night, Juliette found herself separated from the group, lost in conversation with some friends from class, when a familiar presence appeared at her side. She turned to find Abigail, her usually composed face marked by a flicker of distress. Without a word, Abigail grabbed Juliette's arm, pulling her down so she could speak over the thrum of the music.
