PROLOGUE
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
SHE WAS STANDING IN THE living room of the new penthouse they got for her. Well, it was bought from her father's money, but what did it really matter? They were all living in the same sinful world, just playing different roles. The place was huge, expensive, everything new and state-of-the-art—it felt luxurious. She walked around, checking out every room. It was all hers alone. The four guestrooms felt ridiculous, she would never have any guests, but it was what it was. Take it or leave it. Though there was only one choice, obviously.
They told her everything she needed to know at the meeting yesterday. It was all written down and handed over in a thick black dossier. Now it was all just in her head, the rest got burned in the fireplace. No loose ends. No body no crime. And she sure as hell wouldn't be the one going down for being careless.
The job at first hearing seemed not to be a big deal, she'd join the FBI's special unit called the BAU, gathering information on everybody and everything. Easy enough. All she had to do was watch and listen. Make notes in her head. With her memory it'd be a child's play. No hard work necessary. She asked who the target was, but they wouldn't tell her. They said it was one of them, but she didn't need to know which one. It would compromise her, and they couldn't let her fail. No, she had to watch them all. They would do the rest.
It seemed easy enough, but then they started to stirr the pot, burying her in deep shit. She'd be the unit chief. There was no other way to get her into the place without people asking questions. The current unit chief got personally involved in a case, his family was forced into witness protection, and the Bureau didn't see him fit for his role any longer. They got a chance and they took it. She didn't have a choice, it was a done deal already.
So, simple as that, they sent her here, adjusting to this new life she was about to start tomorrow. It was a fucked up situation all right, she had no idea how to lead. She never led before. But how difficult could it actually be? Funny, isn't it? She was about to step into the lion's den, yet all she could think about was her perceived inability to lead a team of seven agents. More likely seven dwarfs, and she'd be their Snow White. Hilarious.
She lit a cigarette, then took a long drag, the smoke billowing through her nostrils. The nicotine spread throughout her body, relaxing her nerves. She was in Singapore just the other day, and she should have stayed there for two more weeks. It was supposed to be her vacation. But they didn't care. And she obeyed their will like a dog, because they were the ones writing the rules, much like her paycheck.
All of a sudden, something furry touched her leg, pulling her out of her thoughts. Her Persian cat. "Hello, Mr Grumpy. You like the place?" Bess scoffed, petting the cat with her bare foot. "It'll be just you and me here. Changing the world."
At least, that was what they said.
author's note
So, this would have been the prologue for this book, I hope I got your attention, haha. I don't know how frequently I will be able to update, since my main focus is on Mastermind (my bad, sorry) and university starts in 10 days as well, but I'll try my best not to make you wait too much for new chapters. I still have to rewatch CM from season 5, so...
Anyway, thanks for reading this book! I can't say it enough! <3
