"i wish i could live without you
but you're a part of me"
-Vacations

TOBIAS GLOWERED DOWN AT HIS PHONE, the screen of the ancient device still not turning on after ten minutes of trying and pressing every button it had.

"C'mon," He glanced sideways towards the digital clock on his nightstand. 7:15, forty-five minutes until class and he hasn't even showered. "For fuck's sake." He threw the phone on the bed next to him before leaning forward and momentarily pressing the palms of his hands to his eyes, sighing frustratedly.

A knock came from the open doorway, Tobias dragging his hands down his face before glancing  to his left to see who it was.

"Hey," Chris greeted him, looking over his disheveled appearance. They hadn't spoken much in the last few months, but they air was definitely lighter with him than with Allison; they didn't follow the same code but morals are morals, even for hunters. "Are you staying home today?"

"No, no, I'm going. I just—" Tobias clicked his tongue, annoyed. "I haven't heard from Isaac in a while and I was gonna call him to see if he needed a ride but it seems my phone finally died." He lazily lifted the faulty device to show him.

"Do you want to use mine?" Chris went to reach for his phone in his pocket before Tobias stopped him.

"It's okay," The blond reassured. "I'll just stop by his place on the way to school. It's the first day, no one's mad if you're late."

"Says the junior," A new voice joined their conversation as his little sister appeared on the doorway. "You're not actually wearing that to school, are you?" Leonora looked petrified at the mere prospect of her older brother driving them to school in his mismatched spongebob and spiderman pijamas.

"You got a problem with that?" He rose his eyebrow challengingly, fully knowing he wouldn't be caught dead wearing those clothes in public.

The smaller blonde pursed her lips. "It looks like I won't be making any new friends this year." She snarked, turning to leave.

"Have you ever?" Tobias leaned forward a bit to yell at her figure down the hallway.

"Screw you!"

SITTING IN FRONT OF STILES WAS a unique type of torture Tobias would usually prefer steering clear of. But, when you know there's a pack of alphas roaming around and the air already started smelling like shit has hit the fan, sitting in front of the hyperactive, overly curious idiot was the only way to make sure he was up to date with any discoveries he'd made between the night before and that morning.

Which were none, it seems, since —for the first time since they met— he hasn't said a single word.

However, before he can start sulking at the idea of what his life will be for the next period, the cacophony caused by everyone's phones ringing and vibrating around the classroom distracts him.

"The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds and the tranquil waterway, leading to the uttermost ends of the earth, flowed somber under an overcast sky, seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness." A woman, dark haired and medium height, read out loud from her phone as she entered the room, heels clicking with each step.

Realising the quote was probably what the global text was about, Tobias couldn't help but nod slightly in approval. Way better than Harris, was his instant opinion.
