"Welcome, welcome!"

"Thank you for inviting me. I appreciate it."

"Of course, of course... Are you here to interview me about my genius? Isn't my art just wonderful?"

"I had another question, as a matter of fact... I was wondering if you would be able to help me with an article."

"An article? What about?"

"It's about an incident from many years ago... One I believe you are more familiar with than you want others to believe."

"..."

"What's wrong?"

"I'm afraid this interview is cancelled."

"What are you--"

"Get out at once."

"I can't just--"

"Then you will fall silent once and for all. Now is not the time to take chances."

"!"

Lasseire Law

9:00 AM

I let out a small sigh as I arrived just outside the entrance of the law office. It had been ages since we were last here, and I couldn't help smiling at the sight of it. At long last, we were back home. I hadn't realized just how much I missed this place until I was there. It had been easy to think about our adventures in Japan while we were there, but now... We were back, and I couldn't wait to see what was waiting for us on the other side of the door leading inside.

"Wow... Your building looks amazing," Sumire hummed from beside me. I turned to face her and saw she was staring up at the building with wide eyes and a dropped jaw. The entire boat ride had been consumed with teaching her everything she needed to know about the legal system in the British Empire, and she claimed to be ready now... Well, as ready as she could have been. Sumire had never thought she would need to consider the jury when she stood in a courtroom, and I could tell she was still grappling with everything that was going to mean for her. London was a far cry from what she was used to even when she was living with her rich parents, and I could see the excitement and shock written all over her face.

"I'm glad you like it. You'll come to love it with time," Evander grinned. He was the first to start walking toward the building, pulling out his keys for the first time in ages. "Come on. I'm sure Melia and Leo will be waiting for us, and I can't wait to see them again."

I trailed after Evander, dragging my bags along with me. Sumire did much the same beside me, and we all hauled our things up the steps leading into the office. I felt my heart begin to race as I grew nearer to the door. I couldn't believe I was finally back, and I couldn't wait to tell Melia about everything that had happened over the course of our time in Japan. She no doubt had a few stories of her own, and Leo had probably grown significantly while we were gone too. It was going to be amazing... Assuming she reacted decently to hearing about Sumire joining the office too. Melia was hardly fond of change, and she could have hated having someone else around since she wasn't warned about it ahead of time.

Evander pressed his key into the lock and twisted it. He gestured for the two of us to follow him with a smile. "Welcome back, everyone." He opened the door at last, and for the first time in what felt like an eternity, I saw the office once again.

It was almost impressive how little it had changed. Everything was still perfectly in order. The only real difference was that it was far cleaner now than it had been back when I last left. I could only assume Melia found it easier to keep everything tidy when she was the only one monitoring the space, and she could keep Leo under control too when she was able to watch him at all times. Not having any cases must have made this a lot simpler for her.
