"You went to see my father, why?"
Niles asked walking into the bedroom,he pulled his tie to loosen rolling up his sleeves. Allison watched him do so, as she set aside the book and stood up trying to read him off.
Anything that included his father he loathed. He hated him, with no exceptions. He hated the way he thought, spoke, laughed and walked. He could not even count in his single hand just how many life attempts his father escaped on his account.
"I asked a question."
He began walking toward, his expression blunt with visible signs of anger.
"Does marrying you mean that you will side with my enemies?"
Her heart drastically beat against her ribcage, her eyes open widely as she moved back from him. How had he known? She was so fast on the bike, carried by the wind that she could swear no one was following her. How did he know, unless he had a spy sent to his father's house and if so then they could have been listened on.
"Answer me dammit!"
Niles' sudden outrage startled the life out of her, she squirmed closing her eyes shut while she held her hands into tight fists on her sides stopping herself from screaming.
This was the first time in the longest time that both of them had found themselves there. Niles was a place of comfort, delicate and good to her and for her then there were times where he was scary ... Just scary.
"I'm sorry , I'm sorry, I'm sorry"
Her trauma of the past few months responded first. Leading her mouth away as she tried to ground herself in the thought that he wasn't going to hurt her. Not again and not anymore.
He sighed while watching her.
"Come here"
His now steady voice ordered and she opened her eyes to look at him. His brows furrowed, his face vulnerably and concerned.
"Come..." He said yet again and she steadily walked to him.
He reached for her hands, exhaled looking into her eyes.
"I need to know why you went to see him."
"I was angry, at you and at him. I'm sorry."
He pulled her into a hug, thinking that it was okay to get angry but not too angry that it would break her.
She had become a total opposite of what she first came there as. Before she had tall walls and ceilings that no matter how much you pushed they'd never fall. Now all her defences were down, it was good atleast for his part. He knew that he was getting the real her, not the facade she wore.
But even in that mist that this majestic woman was vulnerable and innocent in his presence and his alone. There was something that felt terribly wrong, it was starting to get to him. Even after he had tried to ignore it. Something was amiss.
He had perked her lips, and gave her affection. He had listened to her deep in sleep while his mind was lost in thought thinking about her, marriage, the cartel, his father, her, his enemies, and her.
He had run his hand on her naked body pulling her tight to be on top of him before kissing her forehead sniffing in her shampoo.
He thought about all the things they could achieve together. If she had trust and indeed trusted him instead of listening to him because be had something again her. Under different circumstances, he would have wanted to have met her and they'd get together and she'd be someone he too trusted. But she wasn't, atleast not yet and even so she too also didn't trust him. He thought.
And in any case such as this, where there's no trust but lust and unspoken words. Betrayal was the ultimatum. He had hopes that she would prove him wrong, because if not then he'd have to lose her. The cartel would not accept such a betrayal, under any circumstances.
The cartel had its rules and regulations, everyone abided them and they were enforced. Betrayals are punishable by death, if one was lucky they'd get kicked out.
