You are right in your way but didn't you heard that luck matters,so if he/she is lucky they will get selected and it's not that everything will be only on the luck only their selection is on luck but two year is a long way you never know when luck leave your door so their internship journey is a mixup of luck,efforts presence of mind and many more talents which they themselves didn't know about but they have that ability in theirselves which they will explore in this two year time.I hope your doubt is clear now.
