Eliza and Jake walked across the field of dead flowers and dried up grass. The air was murky, and dark clouds filled through the sky. Not another thunderstorm...Jake and I already got drenched twice Eliza thought. "I hope it doesn't rain again" Eliza said. Jake nodded. "It took a long time to get here....it sucks that the rain clouds decided to follow us" Jake said. "They must not like is very much" Eliza said. Jake lightly smiled.

Eliza and Jake had ran and walked until they finally made it to Nebraska, the least populated zombie country. They were hoping to find a human civilization. Ever since they were little, they've only had each other. Eliza's parents died when she was four years old, so Jakes parents took her in, knowing that she was all alone. But when Eliza was seven and Jake was eight, Jake's parents caught the zombie virus, which forced Eliza and Jake to get away from them as fast as they could.

Eliza felt drops of water fall onto her shoulder. Then, the rain poured down like a monsoon. Eliza and Jake were drenched. Their clothing stuck to their skin, making Eliza feel uncomfortable. Her long black hair was soaking wet, like she had just gotten out of a cold shower. She shivered. When was the last time her hair was styled, or the last time she wore makeup? When was the last time she even took a shower?

Jake laughed as the rain poured down. His brown hair stuck to his face, since his bangs swooped over his eye. Well, when his hair was dry that was. Eliza looked at the muddy ground with her big blue eyes. "Of course....it just had to rain didn't it?" Jake said. He laughed again. "It's the third time this week" Eliza quietly said. She shivered. Eliza longed for a warm fire and shelter. A blanket maybe. Then suddenly, Jake wrapped his arms around her. "It'll be alright" Jake said comfortingly.

Eliza smiled and wrapped her arms around herself, trying to keep warm. Then suddenly, she tripped over a rock on the ground. She helped as her knees and hands were planted into the ground. Her black jeans were ripped on the left knee. "Eliza! Are you alright?" Jake asked, helping her off the ground. Eliza wiped the mud off her jeans and let the rain wash over her hands. A bloody cut appeared on her knee. "Shit" she mumbled.

"We have some bandages left in the first aid kit" Jake said. "No....save it for something more important" Eliza demanded. Jake nodded. They continued walking through the field. Eliza limped as she walked next to Jake. Her cut burned, but she didn't want to make it a big deal. And besides, Eliza had gotten much worse wounds than this, like when a knife was thrown at her face, giving her a long scar that ran over her eye.

When that happened to her, she was fifteen. Now she was seventeen. Jake was eighteen. Eliza would always remember when she got that scar. Jake helped her stitch her face. That was the first time Eliza cried in front of Jake. She always wanted to act strong around him, since he was the bravest person she knew. But she couldn't help but cry, since she knew she was going to be scarred for life.

And the pain-the pain was horrific. But Eliza would always remember what Jake told her. When he was finished with the stitches, she bursted into tears. Jake trapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly. "Your still beautiful to me, Eliza" he whispered. The then lightly kissed her forehead. That was two years ago.

Eliza's thoughts were pushed aside when she heard a distant moan. Eliza and Jake stopped in their tracks. The moans grew louder, until two zombie like creatures emerged from the forest in front of them. Eliza gasped, and Jake grabbed her arm. "Run!" Jake yelled. And that's just what they did.
