The air in Ashwick Manor grew colder as the days passed, a chill that seemed to seep into Eleanor's very bones. Her encounter in the locked room had left her shaken, but it had also strengthened her resolve. The manor was alive with secrets, dark and ancient, and she was determined to uncover them all, no matter the cost.

The revelation of Lady Arabella's condition had haunted Eleanor's every waking moment. She couldn't stop thinking about the woman's pale, fragile form, and the unnatural force that had kept her alive for so many years. The questions swirled in her mind, unrelenting and insistent: What had happened to Lady Arabella? What was the source of the curse that plagued Ashwick Manor? And most disturbingly, what role did Lord Cedric and the rest of the Ashwick family play in these horrors?

Eleanor knew that the answers to these questions lay somewhere within the manor, hidden away in its dark corners and forgotten rooms. And she was determined to find them.

Her search led her to the attic, a place she had not yet dared to explore. The servants had warned her that the attic was dangerous, a place where few dared to venture. But Eleanor could not be dissuaded. She had already faced horrors beyond her imagination—what more could the attic hold?

The entrance to the attic was concealed behind a heavy wooden door at the end of a narrow, twisting staircase. Dust and cobwebs clung to the walls, and the steps creaked ominously underfoot as Eleanor ascended. She carried a lantern with her, its warm light casting long, flickering shadows across the walls.

When she reached the top of the stairs, she hesitated for a moment, her hand resting on the door. The air here was thick with the scent of dust and decay, and there was a stillness that made her skin crawl. But she pushed the door open, stepping into the attic.

The attic was vast, its low ceiling crisscrossed with wooden beams that groaned under the weight of the house above. The room was filled with the detritus of generations—old furniture covered in white sheets, trunks filled with forgotten belongings, and stacks of yellowed papers that had long since been abandoned. The air was thick with the scent of mildew and something else, something faintly sweet and sickly.

Eleanor's lantern light flickered as she moved through the space, her footsteps echoing in the silence. The attic felt different from the rest of the manor, as if it existed in a separate world entirely—a world where the past lingered, forgotten but not at rest.

She began to explore, her fingers brushing against the dusty surfaces of the old furniture and boxes. There were paintings stacked against the walls, their frames cracked and their colors faded with age. One of the paintings caught her eye—a portrait of a man with sharp features and cold, piercing eyes. The resemblance to Lord Cedric was unmistakable, though the man in the portrait seemed much older and far more sinister.

Eleanor turned away from the painting, her attention drawn to a large, wooden chest in the corner of the attic. The chest was old and battered, its surface covered in scratches and gouges as if it had been through some terrible ordeal. The lock was broken, and the lid sat slightly ajar, as if inviting her to look inside.

With a deep breath, Eleanor knelt beside the chest and opened it. Inside, she found a collection of letters, diaries, and strange artifacts—objects that seemed out of place in the dusty confines of the attic. The letters were tied together with a frayed ribbon, their paper yellowed and brittle with age. The diaries were bound in worn leather, their pages filled with the spidery handwriting of someone long gone.

Eleanor's heart raced as she carefully lifted the items from the chest, placing them on the floor beside her. She picked up the topmost letter, her hands trembling as she unfolded the fragile paper.
