Jalen
A few weeks after my birthday party not only was it time for Halloween but it was also time for my most important game yet. Homecoming.
"Alright boys let's lock in" coach started our team meeting Monday after school. I had just finished a good day of classes and some personal time with Nova.
Her and I have gotten pretty close, she's a good conversationalist and she can dress, always smells good. But best of all, she's not throwing me off my game.
She makes sure I'm on time to practice, school, I'm eating right. She just has a lot of qualities I would want in a woman.
"This week we're playing none other than the bullshit team of Long Beach Poly" coach told us and we chuckled. They are something like our rivals.
Bunch of big ass niggas that just hit you at full speed. Sometimes I be wondering if they even know how to play football or if they just there to hit niggas.
"Not only that, we have MAJOR scounts coming in this week, Florida, Miami, Alabama and Texas will be at the game this weekend watching for all of you" he told us.
Me and the guys got hyped, knowing that we would be showing out for a completely different viewer. Coach Pierce will be at this game and coach hadn't said that so I'm thinking the lot of us shouldn't know that.
I know he has his eyes on me but I wanna give the whole team a chance. Since I know I can be prepared but them not knowing will allow them to play at their own strengths, so their scouting is on them.
"Team captain make your way to me please" coach said and I stood up and walked down the bleachers to stand beside him. "This year we will be losing our team captain, Jalen will be graduating this year" he announced.
I smiled to myself and the whole team cheered and clapped, "now yes congratulations are in order but now, we have an open team captain spot which can be filled by ANYONE" coach said.
I looked at him, usually the spot is only for a junior or a senior, "this year we're changing things up," coach started "Anyone on the varsity team can try out for the captain position, that includes any freshman's that move up to varsity when the season ends"
The whole team began clapping at the good news. Knowing that me and my guys would be graduating, the next person I would pour out there ... unfortunately was Deshawn. He has all the capabilities he's just young as hell and I know my team they not going to take orders from a rookie.
"Alright boys let's get to work" the meeting adjourned and we all ran out to the field to start warming up.
On the way out I passed the girls locker room and caught Ana coming out, "what's up Ana" I dapped her up and she returned it.
"Hey Jalen" she was looking back, "I think I nova is in the gym already" she told me
I shook my head, "I'm not looking for her, you know she isn't my girlfriend" I told her
She laughs, "okay Jalen"
Confused, I shook it off and ran out to the field to work out.
A few hours of that and I was ready to go home.. that was before my dad called me, "hello?@ I answer as I pushed open the gym doors to head to the front of the school.
"Yo so. What you doing man" he asked me
"My name is fine" I told him, "I'm leaving practice man what's up" I as swerved reluctantly.
This estranged father thing has been weird. We hung out a few more times after my birthday and it was cool but, his life isn't mine. And I do t want it to be.
