Age 16

I vividly recall the moment I first met him. It was at a party hosted by a friend, and I was caught up in the carefree joy of the evening. With a muffin in one hand and another stuffed into my mouth, I stood at the edge of the pool, laughing, completely unaware of the slippery tiles beneath my feet.

In a split second, I lost my balance and plunged into the water. Panic washed over me as I realized I couldn't swim. Just as the cold water started pulling me under, two strong hands wrapped around me, lifting me out of danger. I was gasping for breath, but when I looked up, I saw him.

That was the day I fell-not just into the pool, but in love.

Mehul Agarwal, my first love.

"Now, the groom should fill the bride's hairline with sindoor," the priest's voice shattered my thoughts.

I blinked, the present rushing back to me. This wasn't just a dream anymore-this was my reality.

I was marrying my first love.

Mehul Agarwal.

He sat right beside me, mere inches away, the weight of the moment pressing down on us both. I could feel the warmth of his presence, yet his expression remained distant, as though this was just another obligation to fulfill. But for me, this was everything.

The guy I had once fallen for was now the man who was about to become my husband.

My Husband.

He took the sindoor with an emotionless face, his eyes fixed anywhere but on me, and silently filled my hairline.

The ritual that was supposed to bind us together felt hollow in his cold, detached manner.

A small amount of sindoor slipped onto my nose, and instinctively.

I raised my hand to wipe it away. But before I could, someone stopped me.

"Don't, beta," the priest said kindly.

"It's a good sign-when the sindoor falls on the nose, it means you'll have a life full of love."

Love?

I chuckled inwardly, my mind battling with the irony.

I think this priest might need glasses.

Couldn't he see the expression Mehul was giving him?

It was like he was daring him-

Say one more word, and I'll make your love life hell.
