(New Story Begins, Feel Free to Comment)

In the second or third month of the year, the spring is still chilly, with a constant drizzle. The bustling metropolis, bathed in this fine rain, becomes a foggy haze, with towering skyscrapers looming in and out of view. The first rays of dawn touch every corner, but the lingering overnight drizzle, along with the scattered dead leaves and branches, casts a dreary, oppressive atmosphere over the city.

The wide streets that are usually congested during the day are now sparsely dotted with a few vehicles. A tall woman with long, straight black hair, dressed in a black trench coat, walks briskly on the sidewalk by the road, dragging a suitcase behind her. Her hurried steps are accompanied by the distinct sound of high heels tapping against the pavement, a jarring noise in the otherwise quiet morning.

After walking for more than ten minutes, she looks up at the sky, revealing a delicate, fair face. Gu Qingming glances at the watch on her wrist and mutters, "It's already this late, huh? I'll grab some breakfast first, and then have breakfast with Haotian later."

Today marks the third wedding anniversary of her and Lin Haotian. Her company had scheduled her for a two-week business trip, but to celebrate this special day with her husband, she wrapped up her work quickly and returned a day early. She hadn't informed her husband Lin Haotian in advance, intending to surprise him.

Dragging her suitcase, Gu Qingming went to a favorite breakfast spot, bought breakfast, and then returned to the apartment complex where she and Lin Haotian lived. By this time, elderly men and women were already strolling around the complex. Gu Qingming greeted a few familiar elderly folks but hurriedly moved on, failing to notice their complicated expressions.

One of the elderly men watched Gu Qingming's retreating figure and remarked to another elderly man beside him, "Qingming is such a good, kind child, yet that bastard Lin Haotian brought his mistress home."

A slightly puzzled elderly woman asked, "Old Song, I wanted to warn the child, why did you stop me?"

Old Song chuckled, "Let Qingming find out for herself. If she catches them in bed, wouldn't that be better?"

Another elderly man, Old Lin, nodded in agreement, "Exactly. That bastard Lin Haotian has always portrayed himself as a loving and doting husband in front of everyone. Even Qingming has been deceived for so long. If we just told Qingming her husband was cheating, and the mistress was her best friend, would she believe us?"

Given her loyalty, she would certainly be more inclined to trust her husband and best friend over outsiders.

Unaware of the elders' discussion behind her, Gu Qingming continued on her way, one hand pulling her suitcase and the other carrying breakfast for two, her heart filled with joy as she headed home.

Reaching the door, she took out her keys and quietly opened it. At this time of day, Lin Haotian was usually still asleep, so she wanted to surprise him by sneaking in quietly.

However, when she opened the door, her eyes widened in shock. Not only did she see a disheveled living room, but also some scattered women's clothing—shoes, a skirt, a suit jacket, a blouse...

A terrible premonition instantly gripped Gu Qingming's heart.

Following the trail of clothes, she moved toward the bedroom she shared with Lin Haotian. The bedroom door was ajar. On the floor lay a pair of men's underwear and a black lace bra.

On the pink bed, two heads were touching, and two bodies lay naked, entwined intimately.

Gu Qingming's mind went blank, and she froze.

He... they...

She never imagined they would take advantage of her business trip to sleep together.

One was her beloved husband, Lin Haotian, and the other was her closest friend, Lan Ruomei.

The heavy blow left Gu Qingming pale and on the verge of collapse, her head spinning. But she quickly regained her composure, sitting silently on the sofa in the living room, sinking into pain and thought.

There were no hysterical screams or angry outbursts. Instead, she was eerily calm and composed.

Lin Haotian, Lan Ruomei, childhood friends as close as siblings.

Ha, only a fool like her would have believed it.

Gu Qingming suddenly recalled that, whether when she was dating Lin Haotian or after they got married, every time she met Lan Ruomei, there were always faint hickeys on her neck.

Not knowing much about such things back then, she had asked Lan Ruomei why there were always red marks on her neck.

At the time, Lan Ruomei's gaze had a hint of mockery and pride, but she simply said, "Oh, it's nothing, just mosquito bites."

Back then, Gu Qingming hadn't thought much of the expression on her face.

"How odd, mosquitoes in the middle of winter!" Gu Qingming had remarked curiously, and then warmly invited, "Ruomei, if your dorm has so many mosquitoes, why don't you move into my apartment?"

Lan Ruomei's eyes had brightened at the suggestion, though she hesitated and said, "Qingming, wouldn't that be inappropriate? Your place is a high-end apartment, and I... I'm just a poor person; how could I afford it?"

Gu Qingming had waved it off generously, saying, "It's fine. My apartment is empty most of the time anyway. I'd rather let you stay there. After all, you're my best friend."

But engrossed in her book at the time, Gu Qingming hadn't noticed the deep jealousy in Lan Ruomei's eyes.

Moreover, every time they went shopping, Lan Ruomei would buy things in pairs, even matching outfits, and the next day, Lin Haotian would be using those things, and Lan Ruomei would be wearing the clothes.

Lan Ruomei's reason was that they were childhood friends who would buy things for each other before dating, and after they started dating, it was hard to break the habit.

At the time, she had naively thought their deep childhood bond meant certain habits couldn't be changed, so she hadn't given it much thought.

And there were times she saw them shopping together, holding hands, and even noticed hickeys on both Lin Haotian and Lan Ruomei's necks.

When she questioned it, they would just use the excuse of their "habits."

As for the hickeys, she had been curious but never asked about them.

Time and again, the closeness between Lin Haotian and Lan Ruomei had clearly exceeded that of ordinary siblings or even blood siblings.

To outsiders, it would be obvious that Lin Haotian and Lan Ruomei were a couple, the closest of lovers.

Many people had warned Gu Qingming about it, but once someone falls in love, especially a girl, she becomes blind, deaf, and her heart oblivious.

Thinking about this, tears silently fell from Gu Qingming's eyes.

The biggest fool in the world must be none other than her, Gu Qingming!

Ha, how ridiculous.

So it turns out, her so-called love had been a deception from the start.
