8:30 PM

The atmosphere shifts the moment he steps into the dimly lit, yet vibrantly colorful, expansive room, carrying an aura that commands attention. It's one of the most exclusive nightclubs in the area. Every single person here is influential and high-status, yet his presence is undeniably the most important.

He can feel the pulsating beat of the music beneath his shoes and the gazes of others, particularly women, who cast him looks filled with implicit intentions.

"This way, Mister Alston." A man is with him-the host, guiding him to the designated area.

It's an elevated booth, complete with dedicated guards and servers, overlooking the dance floor while maintaining a separation from the main crowd.

Liam is already there, seated at the banquette.

"They will be here shortly." Liam sits up a little, observing as Damon takes a seat. "Where were you?"

"With the investigator." Damon exhales as he leans back against the seat, spreading his legs and arms, seeming exhausted.

"Had fun with her?" Liam guesses.

"No." Damon surveys the room, taking in the sight of people dancing, before meeting the eyes of some women who smile at his recognition. "Was just talking."

Liam seems surprised, as though he wasn't expecting that answer at all. He then asks. "About?"

"The investigation, what else?" Damon answers briefly, averting his eyes from one woman to beckon the server, who promptly approaches.

"The investigation?" Liam raises his brows, looking down at the glass table in front of him to think. "What is there to talk about? She can't do anything to you."

The server takes the order, then leaves.

"Just make a few phone calls and everything is solved?" Liam turns back to give his boss a questioning look. "With the right connections, accusations are merely a mild inconvenience."

"I can't think of any reason why you should be talking to her, unless, of course..." He shrugs. "You're planning on having some fun with her before silencing her."

Damon gazes off into the crowd again, staying silent.

"You know, Liam..." Damon breathes, his voice almost inaudible over the loud music. "I could have done exactly that."

"She was practically throwing herself at me." He narrows his eyes, staring at some indefinite point in the crowd. "I could have taken her up on her offer, let her think she had something, then shut her up afterwards..."

"But I..." He mutters. "Didn't..."

His statement brings a look of confusion and concern to Liam's face.

"You..." Liam ponders upon this for some seconds. "Didn't want anything from her?"

"No." Damon shrugs. "Did, but not anymore."

"Then what are you doing prolonging this issue? End it already." Liam questions, a bit concerned. "Doing this any longer and your employees will start questioning about her identity, leading to an even bigger issue to deal with."

"I need a distraction." Damon grunts, turning to shoot Liam an irritated look.

"From?" Liam furrows his brows, trying to understand the meaning.

Damon suddenly feels a buzz of notification from his phone. He takes it out then leans back a little, accessing the content discreetly, making sure no one else can see.
