James sat in his living room, feet propped up, when he heard tapping on the window behind him. He turned slightly, letting the large owl in, a letter tied around it's leg. He handed the owl a bit of popcorn before watching him fly back out. He unrolled the letter, his smile growing as he read it. "Ryan does want to live with me!" He exclaimed happily, his movie all but forgotten.
He scrambled to the desk, looking for a spare bit of parchment to write her back on.
Dear Ryan,
Of course you can come live with me. I'd be delighted. I'll start getting your room ready, so when the term ends, you can move in. Don't stress too much about exams; you seem very intelligent. I'm sure you'll ace them.
James
He paused, cursing. He'd sent the owl away before he read the letter. But there was one more he needed to send. His memories of that Halloween night hadn't fully returned and, to be honest, he'd no idea where any of his friends where, but he knew he needed one question answered. So, he got out another piece of parchment and began to write.
Sirius,
I know you're probably thinking this is a joke; I assume you think I'm dead, along with everyone else. But if there's a way for us to meet, I can prove it's me. I can't really remember everything about that night, and even a little before is hard to recall. But something's been bothering me. I had a Secret-Keeper, and I know at one point, it was supposed to be you. But we changed that, didn't we? You knew something I didn't. Or acted like you did.
Also, I met your daughter. She's in Hogwarts. She looks just like Reg, er, you. She's been living in an orphanage. What happened to you? Or Elora?
Have a bit of faith and write me back, Pads.

He read back over the letter before disguising himself to go into Diagon Alley to send them. Tom, the barkeep at the Leaky Cauldron, waved as he passed through. He went straight to the post, letters in his pocket. "Hello!" The pretty blonde woman behind the desk greeted him. "Picking up or mailing?"
"Um, mailing." He placed Ryan's letter on the desk first. "This one's going to Hogwarts."
"Great. 2 sickles for that one."
"And, I'm not sure where this one is going." He placed the other letter down next. "But maybe he can be found."
"My owls are the best at that, sir." She smiled to reassure him and James smiled back. "I won't charge you for the second letter until it gets delivered."
"Really? Thank you, Ms-"
"Caroline." She offered. "And you are?"
"James." They shook hands and he set down the money. "Thank you for your help, Caroline."
"Of course." She smiled again. "I'll be sure to let you know about that letter, Mr. Evans."
"I can't wait." He left, heading back to the Leaky Cauldron for a drink before going back to his flat.
