BLAIR MILLER
I've never been more nervous.
It was a Friday, the day after Halloween.
Somewhere between school and practice, I planned a dinner between Noah and my parents.
I don't even know.
We aren't even fully together.
I've been cramming in as much practice as we could. We had another away game tomorrow in Monterey. This time it was for both teams.
The girls were scheduled to play in the afternoon and the guys in the evening.
Two knocks on the door distracted me from my thoughts.
I gulped, as my mom motioned for me to open it. I'm scared.
I took slow steps to the hall, twisting the lock before pulling the door open.
"Hi." I greeted.
"Hey." He leaned in for a hug.
He better not try to kiss me, my parents are probably listening in.
I stood on my tippy toes, completely hugging him back. Thank goodness.
He didn't go in for a kiss.
I held onto his fingertips, bringing him inside. He took his shoes off, following after me.
"Noah, this is my Mom... Ashley. And my Dad... James." I introduced them.
"Mom, Dad, this is Noah." I gestured between the four of us, he smiled, putting his hand out. "Nice to meet you both."
My dad eyed his hand, not taking it.
I'm going to off myself.
"Nice to meet you! We've heard so many good things." My mom thankfully shook his hand instead. Well, at least she's her usual overbearing self.
He swiftly nodded in my dad's direction. "It's a pleasure to meet you, sir."
I think he's slowly connecting the dots.
My dad is asian and my mom isn't white.
She's half Jamaican, half German. It was only me and my dad who didn't know how to speak German. It was baffling.
