THE COTTAGE
new orlean, usa
four months later

IT TOOK HIM LESS than five minutes to fetch her a mug of tea with milk and honey, but she was no longer where he's left her. Carefully setting the glass on the nearest table, Nik moved to peer through the crack of the open walk-in closet.

After their trip around the world, Rosalie picked up on trying different styles of clothingㅡno wonder Alaska and Caroline enjoyed it so much, finding what worked and what didn't was rather fun. Nik, of course, was far too happy to indulge in her new hobby. Even going as far as surprising her with a walk-in closet in their new home.

But the usual smile was absent from her lips. Instead, Rosalie sat on one of the cushioned stools, surrounded by all sorts of discarded clothing on the floor.

She looked up at him, eyes glassy and sorrowful. "I don't fit in anything." Though she tried to hide it, her lip quivered. "I feel like a whale."

He reached for her, a frown marring his lips. Nik knelt in front of her, settling himself between her legs, before pulling her into his welcome embrace. Rosalie melted against his chest, pressing her face into his warmth. Nik kissed the top of her head, gently caressing her dark brown curls. "You're not a whale, love."

"You're not helping!" Rosalie mumbled, her tears dampening his shirt. They both knew that this pregnancy would cause her to be emotional because of, in her words: the fucking hormones. But Nik took everything in stride, being his usual patient and kind self. If anything, he was happy to wait on her, hand and foot. Then, a thought occured to her: "This is all your fault."

She pulled back slightly, glaring at him through the tears. It hardly looked menacing, not having the effect she hoped, "You should have known you could get me pregnant."

"If I had known, would you choose notㅡ"

"Stop being logical!"

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he peppered kisses on the back of her hand. Nik craddled her face, using the pads of his thumbs to wipe her tears away. "Let's get you to bed, okay?"
