Dev's POV

The night had settled in, wrapping the world in its quiet, velvety darkness. I was on the verge of sleep, the heavy comfort of my bed almost swallowing me whole, when an abrupt knocking shattered the silence.

I sighed, my fingers pressing against my temple. Who the hell is disturbing me at this hour?

Dragging myself from the bed, I ran a hand through my hair, pushing off the luxurious covers. The cool floor beneath my feet sent a shiver up my spine as I reached the door and pulled it open.

Preeti stood there, looking unusually tense. Her wide eyes and fidgeting hands told me whatever she had to say wasn't trivial.

"Bhai," she blurted out, her voice tinged with urgency. "Naina received a weird box tonight. She's alone at her apartment and called me-she said it has a dress in it, and it's kind of scary. I'm thinking of staying with her tonight."

I leaned against the doorframe, pretending to process her words while fighting the smirk threatening to escape. Of course, she found it scary.

Preeti, oblivious to my internal amusement, continued, "I just don't feel comfortable leaving her alone after this."

"Alright," I said smoothly, already grabbing my car keys. "Let's go."

As we walked through the dimly lit hallway, shadows danced along the walls, stretching and twisting like silent spectators to our midnight mission. Preeti settled into the passenger seat, her fingers tapping against her knee in restless anticipation.

"Bhai," she said after a moment, "can you also find out who sent the box? It would be helpful."

I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing. If only you knew, little sister.

"Of course," I responded, keeping my voice even. "I'll look into it."

The drive was quiet, the occasional hum of the engine the only sound between us.

When we reached her apartment complex, the night air was cool against my skin as we stepped out of the car. The building loomed above us, the soft glow of the hallway lights casting long shadows as we walked towards her door.
