The night had settled in, and I was just about to succumb to the soft embrace of sleep when an abrupt knocking at my door jolted me awake. I sighed deeply, the comfort of the bed tempting me to ignore the interruption. But curiosity won over, and I swung my legs over the edge, pushing aside the luxurious covers. The cool floor beneath my feet grounded me, and I made my way to the door.

Opening it, I found Preeti standing there, her face etched with concern. Her normally calm demeanor was replaced with an urgent, almost frantic energy. “Everything alright, Preeti?” I asked, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep from my voice.

“Bhai,” she said, her voice laced with worry. “Naina received a mysterious box tonight. She’s alone at her apartment and called me, saying it contained a dress and that it’s kind of scary. I’m thinking of staying with her tonight.”

A small, involuntary smile tugged at my lips. Preeti’s protectiveness was one of her most endearing traits. She didn’t catch my smile; her eyes were too focused on the urgency of the situation. “Alright,” I said, grabbing my car keys from the side table. “Let’s go.”

We navigated through the dimly lit hallway, the soft glow of the security lights casting long shadows. Once we reached the car, Preeti slipped into the passenger seat, her fingers fidgeting nervously. I slid into the driver’s seat, starting the engine. “Bhai, can you also find out who sent the box? It would be helpful,” she asked, her gaze fixed ahead.

“Sure,” I replied, my mind already on the task. The box and the dress had been my idea, orchestrated with meticulous care. I had chosen the dress for Naina, selecting something that I knew would catch her eye, and had arranged for its delivery through a trusted contact. My plan was working perfectly—so far.

After a ten-minute drive, we arrived at Naina’s apartment building. The cool night air brushed against my face as we walked to her door. Preeti and I rang the doorbell, the sound echoing in the quiet hallway. Moments later, the door creaked open, revealing Naina in her short pajamas and a casual top.

Her hair was hastily tied up, giving her a look of casual disarray that somehow enhanced her charm. There was an undeniable blend of innocence and allure in her appearance.

When Naina saw me standing there with Preeti, her eyes widened in surprise. Without a word, she quickly shut the door. I could hear her calling Preeti, her voice tinged with panic. “Preeti, what’s Dev doing in front of my door?”

Preeti’s voice came through the door, calm and reassuring. “He just came to drop me off. You must have forgotten. He’s not here for anything else.”

Naina’s confusion was evident. “But why is he here now?”

“He’s here to help me check out the box,” Preeti explained. “Everything’s fine. Just relax.”

There was a brief pause, and then the door opened again. This time, Naina was dressed in a full set of pajamas, her earlier disquiet replaced with a more composed demeanor. As we entered the apartment, my gaze was immediately drawn to the gift box and the dress laid out on the table. Naina’s reaction to the dress was exactly what I had hoped for—she seemed fascinated and puzzled, her eyes lingering on the garment.

Preeti wasted no time examining the box and its contents. “Who sent you this?” she asked, her curiosity piqued. She pulled out the dress, her eyes widening in admiration. “This dress is stunning. It’s so beautiful and sexy. You should definitely keep it and wear it to the party on the ship.”

Naina hesitated, her unease clear. “But it’s from an unknown person.”

I decided it was time to intervene. “It might be from someone unknown, but it has your name on it. It’s clearly meant for you. Why not wear it? It could be expensive and special.”

Preeti nodded in agreement. “Yes, wear it to the party. It’s perfect.”

Naina looked conflicted but eventually seemed to come around. Preeti then introduced me to Naina. “Naina, this is my brother, Dev. Dev, this is Naina, my best friend.”

Naina looked a bit nervous, and I made an effort to ease her anxiety. “Just relax, Naina. There’s no need to be nervous around me.”

As we chatted, Naina began to open up, her initial tension giving way to a more comfortable demeanor. Our conversation flowed naturally, and I found myself genuinely enjoying the exchange. Meanwhile, Preeti rummaged through Naina’s cupboard to find a pair of pajamas for herself. Naina excused herself and fetched a cute set of pajamas for Preeti, who soon emerged from the washroom looking more relaxed.

Naina, ever the gracious host, asked if I wanted something to eat or drink

Naina, ever the gracious host, asked if I wanted something to eat or drink. I politely declined, appreciating the offer.

“So, Naina,” I started, trying to keep the conversation light and engaging, “what are your interests? What do you enjoy doing in your free time?”

Naina’s face brightened as she spoke about her love for cooking, especially baking cupcakes and making noodles. She also mentioned her passion for dancing and her preference for quiet moments rather than crowded places. I listened intently, fascinated by her responses.

As our conversation continued, Preeti came out of the washroom and reminded us that it was getting late. “We have to get up early for the university tomorrow. We should get some sleep.”

Naina turned to Preeti and then to me, her expression curious. “What about Dev? Will he stay here, or will he go home?”

Preeti, with a playful smirk, turned to me and said, “Get out, donkey! You’re not allowed at this girl’s sleepover.”

I chuckled, playing along with the joke. “Alright, alright. I’m going,” I said, waving goodbye. “You’re not allowed in this girl’s sleepover. Bye-bye!”

As I walked out of Naina’s apartment, I felt a satisfied smile spread across my face. The fact that she had agreed to wear the dress to the party filled me with a sense of accomplishment. I drove back to my mansion, replaying the night’s events in my mind. When I reached my room, I settled into bed, the thought of Naina in that dress at the upcoming party filling me with eager anticipation. As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn’t help but feel excited for what the future might hold.
