“I want you to divorce Hyunwoo and move to Germany” her grandfather said.
Haein’s mind raced, trying to process the gravity of his words. “Why?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “Why divorce Hyunwoo and go to Germany?”
Her grandfather’s gaze was steady. “The company needs fresh leadership and a clear direction. Your presence in Germany will be essential for the upcoming expansion. As for Hyunwoo, he’s become a complication that could jeopardize both your future and the company’s.”
Haein’s heart sank. The prospect of leaving behind her life and the complexities of her relationship with Hyunwoo weighed heavily on her. “Is there no other way?” she pleaded.
Her grandfather’s expression softened, but his resolve remained firm. “This is the path that will secure both your future and the company’s. It’s a difficult decision, but it’s necessary.”
Haein stared at him, her thoughts swirling as she tried to make sense of the abrupt and life-changing directive.
Haein’s voice trembled with emotion. “No, I love him,” she objected, her eyes pleading. “I can’t just leave him behind.”
Her grandfather’s gaze remained unyielding. “Love doesn’t change the reality of what must be done. The company’s future is at stake, and you have a duty to it.”
Haein’s heart ached as she tried to reconcile her personal feelings with the demands placed upon her. “Is there truly no other option?” she asked desperately.
The silence that followed was heavy, and her grandfather’s silence was the only answer she needed.
Her grandfather's eyes narrowed as he delivered his ultimatum. "If you don't, I'm killing him off."
Haein's face went pale. "What are you saying?" she whispered, horrified.
"I'm giving you a choice" he said coldly. "Divorce Hyunwoo and go to Germany, or he will pay the price."
The weight of his words crashed down on her, and Haein felt her world spin as she struggled to grasp the gravity of the situation.
Haein’s voice trembled. “You can’t be serious. This isn’t just about me; it’s about his life.”
Her grandfather’s gaze remained unyielding. “This is a matter of family and business. Your personal life must be secondary to our interests.”
Tears welled in Haein’s eyes. “Please, there must be another way. He’s done nothing wrong.”
“No” he said firmly. “This is the only way. Make your decision.”
Haein felt a crushing weight on her chest as she stared at her grandfather, the choice between her love and her family’s demands tearing at her heart.
Haein’s mind raced, struggling to reconcile the impossible choice before her. “Why are you doing this? Why can’t you see how important Hyunwoo is to me?”
Her grandfather’s expression softened slightly but remained resolute. “This is about securing the family’s future. Hyunwoo’s position complicates matters, and we need to ensure stability.”
Haein’s voice shook as she pleaded, “Isn’t there any other solution? Can’t you find a way to protect both the family’s interests and my happiness?”
Her grandfather’s tone grew cold. “The decision is final. You have until the end of the week to finalize the divorce and make preparations to leave for Germany. If you refuse, you know the consequences”
Haein’s heart sank as she felt the enormity of the decision she was forced to make. The room felt colder, and her resolve wavered. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
