CRICKET HEARTBREAKING AND HEALING

Top - Travis Head
Bottom - Rohit Sharma

The match was over, but the sting of defeat still lingered in the air, suffocating and heavy. Rohit Sharma, the "Hitman" of Indian cricket and captain of Team India, sat alone in the dimly lit room of their Mumbai apartment. The weight of India's loss to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final bore down on him like an insurmountable burden, breaking not just his heart but the hearts of millions of Indian fans.

And to make matters more complex, the man who had played a pivotal role in that heartbreaking defeat, the one who had shattered India's World Cup dreams with his ruthless performance, was none other than his husband of seven years, Travis Head.

Travis had been nothing short of brilliant in that match. His innings had been a masterclass in cricket, a display of raw power and clinical precision that had left the Indian bowlers in shambles. The Australian team had rallied around him, and together they had achieved what seemed impossible: defeating India in their own backyard to lift the World Cup trophy. But while the world celebrated Australia's victory, Travis found himself grappling with a conflict only he could understand.

He entered their apartment quietly, knowing Rohit needed time to process everything. Travis loved Rohit deeply, and seeing him in pain, especially pain he had inadvertently caused, tore at his heart.

"Ro?" Travis called out softly, his voice laced with concern as he stepped into the living room where Rohit sat, staring blankly at the television that still displayed the post-match analysis.

Rohit didn’t respond. His mind was replaying every moment of the match, every run, every missed opportunity, every decision he had made as captain. He could see Travis in his element on the screen, dominating the bowlers, leading Australia to a historic victory. But in those moments, he wasn’t just the Australian cricketer; he was Rohit’s husband, and that duality hurt more than anything else.

Travis walked over and gently sat beside Rohit, his hand resting on his shoulder. "Ro, talk to me," he urged, his voice gentle, his touch tender.

Rohit turned to look at him, his eyes reflecting a storm of emotions—hurt, anger, sadness, and love. "How can I?" Rohit finally spoke, his voice hoarse. "How can I talk to you about this, Trav? You were… unstoppable out there. You destroyed us."

Travis’s heart sank. He knew how much this World Cup meant to Rohit, to India. The whole nation had pinned their hopes on Rohit leading them to glory, and to be the one responsible for dashing those hopes was a bitter pill to swallow.

"I didn’t want to hurt you, Ro. You know that," Travis said, his voice cracking with emotion. "I was doing my job… just like you were doing yours. But I never wanted it to end like this… with you feeling like this."

Rohit looked away, the tears he had been holding back threatening to spill over. "I know, Trav. I know it’s your job. And you were brilliant. But it’s hard to separate that from… us. You broke a billion hearts today, including mine."

Travis felt a lump form in his throat. He had faced tough situations on the field, but nothing had prepared him for this—the pain in Rohit’s eyes, the strain in their relationship because of a game that meant everything to both of them.

He shifted closer to Rohit, gently turning his face towards him. "I’m so sorry, Ro. I can’t undo what happened on that field, but I’m here now, and I’m with you. I hate seeing you like this. Let me help you, please."
