Part one-I hate you

Five's first memory of his childhood was a stern warning from his adoptive Father, Reginald Hargreeves.

"Number Eight is a danger to you all. She is your sister but she is not a part of this family. She is to remain living at the academy so that I can watch her and protect you from her but under no circumstances are you to interact with her. She will not participate in missions and she will remain in the basement until further notice, do you understand?" He said, sternly, almost too much so that Five detected an underlying emotion, almost fear.

He grew up close to most of his siblings, and although they were told Lea was meant to be their sister, they never viewed her as that. She wasn't one of them. Missions were fun for them and they couldn't fault it. Their upbringings were less than average but being young kids with super powers didn't exactly make much sense either.

As they grew a little older, their father would tell Five that Number eight, Lea, ruined his life. She killed his real parents, destroyed his chances of finding them once he reached adulthood and left the academy. He resented her and had never truly met her, only ever seen her walk the halls on the odd occasion. Reginald had loosened the reins on her slightly as she was able to control her powers.

Five knew she could sense him staring daggers into her any time they passed each other, she would have a saddened expression on her face any time she emerged from the basement. That only told him that his other siblings treated her the same way. An outsider. An enemy.

His father would often tell the kids to picture her in their minds during training to draw out aggression. Not a single timeline existed where they didn't hate each other, it just made sense.

The same year Five turned thirteen, he got stuck. His powers failed him and he spent forty years in an apocalyptic state of the world. It was lonely, and terrifying for a young boy to experience. He grew cold as the years went on, resenting the universe and the things It lead him to deal with. Eventually, he was rescued, or so he thought, by a woman named 'The Handler.'

He was hired to work at the commission, fix the time continuum. This time of his life was miserable, missing the death of his brother Ben, he wasn't there to save him. Despite that though, he worked hard, became a well known and skilled assassin, earning his way to the top.

His final assignment was to Kill Lea Hargreeves. Despite how much he hated her, he couldn't do it. It felt wrong, but it lead him to learn that getting that order meant she would cause something, something bad enough that it was beyond fixing. She had to die.

Five looked into his escape after refusing to kill Lea, the only date that would work being in 2019, the day his father died. He knew his family would all be gathered at the academy. He could warn them, maybe even get their help to stop Lea.

He couldn't figure out what it was about her that made her this way. She couldn't seem to help but ruin everything, from birth she was despised. She had either of their parents watching over her to make sure she didn't accidentally hurt them. She had no label either. She would be wrong to call them her siblings, and to say she had parents would be wrong too. Parents are supposed to love their children. She fit nowhere so why did he hesitate to kill her? remove her from their problems? he had done it many times before.

Whatever it was that held him back, better not be there when he got home and tried again. He refused to fail.
