She's staring holes through you. First period - Monday morning - it's fuzzy.

It was a party. You were invited. It was somebody's house. Westwood. Start of the weekend.

Keg of Budweiser - bottles from parents liquor cabinets. Stoli from the freezer.

Bathroom sink - rolled up dollar bills - lines. Philadelphia Marching Powder.

Non-habit forming . . . honest!

Ramones on the stereo - walls shaking. Somebody cranked up the bass.

A lot of girls - one in particular. Eyes lock.

You kind of remember talking to her. A lot of laughing. Sparks. Dark piercing dots you fell straight into. She's the one.

Chain smoking - speed rapping. Hands everywhere. Exploding head and fantastic lips - she tasted like Boone's Farm Apple Wine.

And then it went dark. You don't remember much after that.

You kind of remember clothes and then no clothes - you remember giggling and then it got quiet.

Birds chirping, making noise. Room getting lighter. You don't know this place but you're on the floor - where are your clothes?

Find your pants - pour into your shirt. Make it home - Park in the driveway. Dodge the Sunday Times as it hits the lawn. Parents not up yet. Lucky you.

Sleep it off - miss a day. Made a promise to be someplace. Phone keeps ringing.

Explain the dent in the side door. Parents want to send you back. They'll settle for you moving out after graduation.

Go back to bed and wait for Monday.

Weekend over. Monday morning - class - still staring holes.

Bell rings - you get up to leave. She walks over to you.

You think she broke your nose - you didn't see it coming.

Now you remember. She was the one. She was your future. She's pissed.

You heard a rumor these are your best years.

They're lying.
