James POV
Marlene McKinnon, Frank Longbottom and Alice Fortescue had decided that they would join our compartment for the rest of the train ride to Hogwarts. And they were Lily's friends, which meant Lily had to join us as well. I had Remus and Sirius join us over the Christmas break, whilst Peter was in France. Anyway, Remus had decided to give some input as to what I was doing wrong with earning Lily's trust, so he gave pointers in what I needed to do. Step 1: Deflate my ego. I was working on that. Step 2: Stop calling her Evans. That was a work in progress. Step 3: Make conversation. That was more of a work in progress. I was currently sat across from the fiery red-head, and totally in La-La-Lily Land, day-dreaming about who knows what. Probably Lily. She was so smart, and beautiful. And a lot of other words that I don't know because I should expand my vocabulary, but don't.
Sirius pulled me out of my day-dreaming, proposing a little prank for the start of term. I agreed, but upon seeing the look on Lily's face, began to doubt what exactly we were doing. How one person could affect that much when you were in love was beyond me. Lily could do make me do so much.
"How were your holidays, Potter?" she asked.
I answered without thinking.
"It was all right, my cousins came over, and I got some presents and food, Sirius, Remus and I pranked a few people, coz they came over, too. We got my mum's uncle, and it was hilarious coz mum was angry with us Uncle Graeme was like; that's so funny, he must be your kid, Dorea."
"James Potter, pranking since 19... something," Lily said.
"He's been pranking since the day he was born, Lily," Sirius joked.
"I'm not surprised," she joked back.
It was a nice way to start off the year, really. Being friends with Lily's group was a good start to the year. It was beginning to go dark, so everyone went to go get changed into their robes. Finally the train was slowing down as we pulled into the station, the door to our compartment slid open, and for the second time today, Snivellus Snape appeared.
"Lily.... I don't know how to say sorry."
"You just said it," she commented. "But clearly that's not what your trying to say."
"No I am, I just don't know how to say it so you will be friends with me again!"
"Yeah.... that won't be for a long time now."
"...." Snape gaped at her.
I turned my head to look at Lily, and she was fuming. I looked back and saw Snape with almost the same face.
"I can't believe you just said that," he said slowly and precisely.
"I can't believe you called me what you did. But you did, and I heard, so did Sirius, Remus, Peter and even James! And I will never forgive for saying that."
"So your on a first name basis with him now!"
Lily faltered.
"Um..." she looked at me for help.
"It's complicated," I inputted.
"Shut up, Potter no one asked you."
"Lily did," I said matter-of-factly.
He looked at Lily as if he wanted help, but nothing was coming.
"I did," she said.
I smiled. Lily was teaming up with me. I loved it, needless to say. Snape had nothing else to say.
"So that's it, there's nothing more I can so or do?"
"Yep," she said simply.
The train stopped completely, and everyone started getting up. I grabbed my stuff, and saw Lily struggling to get her stuff. I was a lot taller than her, and took this chance to grab it down for her.
