chapter one

Camille Leon had always felt invisible

She walked through the trong of students at school

Without being noticed.

Evian was popular and pretty

Even if they had been friends since childhood

Evian had always been popular with boys

And Camille Leon had always never minded because

She loved Henry Poole

And he loved her

They had loved each other since grade school

Henry had long dark hair and dark eyes

Camille had curly brown hair and hazel eyes

Today , May 6th ,1973 was her birth date

She was turning 16

Today her life would change for ever

Everything started in art class

They day had been just like always

She woke up early and after getting ready with her peasant skirt and top

And flowers in her hair she went to school

After changing into her swimsuit and practicing for an hour her stroke

There she met Henry and they held hands as he walked with her to Art class

Miss Prentiss greeted the class and they took their seats

She had laid out paper and coloring pencils and sketching pencils

"the assignment is to draw someone you feel has inspired you"

"what a boring class" she heard a young voice said.

"I hate art class" said another one

Camille looked around her everyone's mouth was closed and

All the class were drawing pencils going

"Henry is so cute. Too bad he's with Camille he is too cute"

Eivan's vo ice echoed in Camille's ears

Miss Prentiss goes to Camille "She is distracted, she's probably thinking about a boy"

Camille heard Miss Prentiss voice

"Camille, you are not doing the assignment-please pay attention. "

Miss Prentiss moved away and Camille said to herself "all I need is my pencil"

The pencil jumped from the desk to her hand

Terrified Camille drew quickly and nearly ran out of the class room almost

5 minutes before the bell rang

She nearly ran through the halls of school

Henry ran after her

"Camille!,Camille!" Henry caught up with her and he saw the fear in Camille's face

"what's the matter " he felt pain something was wrong

The hall was full of loud murmuring voicesamille felt Henry's embrace and she covered her ears

She wept and he held her

"I got to go home" she moaned

I'll take you " Henry took her books and walked with her to his car

This morning she had reached school early because she had a swim meet and she needed to practice

She sat in Henry's car

The radio was playing the Carpenters

But she didn't or rather couldn't focus on the song

"How is my baby,-should I ask her_"

Camille hear Henry's voice in her head she could feel his pain

"I am home-I will call you"

'Camille you can tell me anything, I am here for you"

"if told you what is happening to me you will think I am crazy

"what is it my love?"

She seems scared " Henry thought.

"you think I seemed scared"

Henry paled " Camille-how?"

I don't know- I got to go !" Camille said in desperation

Just let me go"

It was then that he realized he had been holding her all this time

He let go and he thought ," I love you baby"

"I love you too" Camille said and Henry kissed her

Harried and scared Camille enters her house

Her mother is in the kitchen getting dinner ready

Camille ran up the stairs and going to her bedroom she closed the door and throwing herself on her bed began to cry

She already thought she was a freak

There were soft raps at the door

"Camillle, where are your manners if I had not seen your school bag on the sofa I would never have-"

"child what is the matter" her mother thought seeing Camille's tears

"what is the matter is I - I know what you are thinking -"

"have you turned invisible? Blending into your surroundings?

Have you called objects with your mind?"

Her mother said calmly

"Sit up Camillie there is something I have to tell you

"You inherited this from your father.

He was different

He was a medic and he saved lives they injected him with a serum

The powers of a chameleon and his gift of reading minds

He had the power to read minds and call objects

His vision was sharp and he changed color according his sourroundings

Come with me and I will show you his chamber
