Camp community

(season 1 episode 1)

Gracie sits on the grass, looking up at the sky. She'd always wondered what it would be like to be a bird. Just flying all the time, being free in the sky...not stuck down here on the ground.

Ever since the dead started walking people had changed. She had changed. And she knew that she had because how else would she have survived.

Gracie was fourteen, going on fifth teen, when the world had died.
She had to do something about this, she knew she did, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to plunge a knife through her mothers and brothers skull.

After that day she was on the run for weeks, scavenging and hiding from the dead, running untill she could not anymore, sleeping in store back rooms. By the time she reached out of Atlanta she was run down and near death, then the group finds her, takes her in as there own, she'd been there ever since.

Now she looks up at the sky, counting birds that fly past her.

Amy sits near the radio waiting for her sister andrea to contact her, to tell her that she's okay. Andrea went out with Glenn,Jacqui,T-Dog,Morales and Merle into Atlanta to scavenge some supplies.

Dale is on the top of the RV with his binoculars waiting for them to come back.

Lori was brushing her son's Carls hair. With Shane close by.

And gracie was sat by herself with only a flower to comfort her, a pink flower she places in her hair.

Time goes fast in place you feel safe, that's what she's learned with this group.

Safe.

"Hey gracie,come here" Amy said as she motions gracie to come sit with her by the radio.

"okay" gracie smiled as she walked to the older girl.

Amy was a good friend, though a lot older than gracie she felt a real connection with her.

"So how are you find-" Amy gets cut off by a man's voice on the radio.

"hello?" the man's voice questions sounding panicked.

"hello? is anyone there?" the man repetes.

Gracie took the radio and replies with dales conformation "Hi! we are here, we can hear you"

"can anybody hear me?" the man spoke again.

Gracie's voice falters as she realises that we can hear him but he can't hear us. Amy takes over with the radio trying to get through to the man on the other side.

With annoyance the girl stands from the grass and watches the radio.

"Don't go to Atlanta! it's overrun" Amy says as the radio cuts off.

"shit!" amy yells throwing her hands up in the air.

Dale speaks from besides where gracie is standing now. "Shane, come over here, you know how these things work!"

Shane rushes to the radio and tries it again "hello, i am shane walsh police officer, can you hear me!"

But once again no answer.

Gracie walks away from the adults to sophia and sits by her playing with a toy pony.

"hi gracie!" the 12 year old spoke as she glided the horse across a stick on the ground.

"hey sophia" gracie retuned with a smile.

From where the two girls where they could hear Shane and Dale trying to make a plan. "i'll see you later sophie okay" gracie pats sophia and walks back to the adults.

"we could send someone, into Atlanta" Dale proposes.

"i'll do it" Amy says as raises her hand "i can drive, i'm 24 i can take care of myself"

This was gracie's chance "i'll go too" the young girl joins in, "give us weapons."

"No...No! none of you two are going anywhere" shane speaks from besides them, "No weapons".

"why?!" Gracie yells from beside the adults.

Shane walks closer to her and Amy "because i said so" the man gritted his teeth as he spoke.

Gracie could tell that shane didn't like her, But she couldn't quite understand why. Why was this older man so content on making gracie's life worse.

Once she had asked him for a weapon, and he laughed and said that "even all the training in the world won't make you good with a weapon"

She sat back down with amy away from the adults. "what a dick" amy yells loud enough for shane to hear. "yeah a total dick" gracie responded with the same volume as Amy. Both the girls laugh as they recall how red shane's face got.
