What is 한글?

한글 is what is know as the Korean alphabet, the main writing system of Korea.

Consonants

ㄱ —> 기역 —> g (often sound like k)
ㄴ —> 니은 —> n
ㄷ —> 디귿 —> d (often sound like t)
ㄹ —> 리을 —> R or L
ㅁ —> 미음 —> m
ㅂ —> 비읍 —> b (at times / often sounds like p)
ㅅ —> 시읏 —> s
ㅇ —> 이응 —> as a batchim it is often ng at the start it is silent this letter is a place holder essentially
ㅈ —> 지읒 —> j
ㅊ —> 치읓 —> ch (often times t)
ㅋ —> 키읔 —> k
ㅌ —> 티읔 —> t
ㅍ —> 피읖 —> p
ㅎ —> 히읗 —> h

Double Consonants

ㅃ —> pp
ㅉ —> jj
ㄸ —> dd
ㄲ —> kk
ㅆ —> ss

Vowels

ㅏ —> ah
ㅑ—> ya
ㅓ —> eo
ㅕ —> yeo
ㅜ —> u
ㅠ —> yu
ㅗ —> o
ㅛ —> yo
ㅡ —> eu
ㅣ —> i
ㅐ —> ae
ㅔ —> e

Complex Vowels

ㅒ —> yae
ㅖ—> ye
ㅘ —> wa
ㅙ —> wae
ㅚ —> woe
ㅝ —> wo
ㅞ —> we
ㅟ —> wi
ㅢ —> ui

NB : it isn't advised to learn the alphabet with direct correlation to the English one, but it's a bit easier for many so I added it English 'counterpart'
