The strong aroma of coffee filled the air as I wipped down the counter. As usual the place was packed with people, striking bubbly conversations. Strings of sunlight emerged from the open windows, casting a warm glow over the small space.
The light music and the old familiar decorations reminded me off my old town.It was moments like these that made me miss home but also reminded me of why I had left.
It hadn't been long since I had moved to Covehollow, a small town on the shores of Louisiana. It was a beautiful place, near the sea and--most importantly--far away from 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦.
I'd found a decent condo close to the center of town and moved in last july with my cat Milo, vowing to start fresh. The transition was tough, but I had finally landed a job as a barista at Moo's Café Bar .
October had arrived, and the leaves where already falling, with Halloween decorations already popping up all around town.
As I glanced out the window,a sense of nostalgia washed over me, taking me back to a time when life felt easier, yet more complicated in a way I couldnt explain.
The familiar twinkle of the bell signaled a new customer's arrival drawing me back to the present.
As I looked towards the door to see the new individual ,I immediately recognized the face,it was Mack.
Mack was one of the first in this town to warm up to me.Though he didn't work at the cafe, he spent most of his time hanging out around the bar with friends, occasionally making small talks with me.
He looked around the store before making his way towards me at the bar smiling widely.
"Hey!Just my luck,my favorite barista!" Mack said in a joyous tone.
"Hi Mack" I replied, cleaning some glasses.
"So how's my favorite barmaid doing? You look fantastic today!"
"If youre bombarding me with compliments just to get another free drink, forget it" I replied knowingly.
"Awww, can't blame a man for trying ay?"He said deafated
I chuckle,"Better luck next time".
He then went with his friends that were already sitting further down watching the football match as I continued working at the bar, serving and making small talk with the customers that came in.
Tonight was PACKED.
I was Serving beers left and right. And Im pretty sure I served multiple wrong orders. But who cared, nobody would complain about receiving a glass of whine instead of some bubly water.
If it hadn't been for my collegue Maria, I problably would've crashed out.
I look over at her on the other side of the bar, running left and right looking as distressed as me.
At least this meant that the tips tonight were gonna be fabulous.
I continued to dart between tables, balancing trays of drinks and dodging customers as they crowded around the bar.
After a while,I went back to the counter taking new orders.
I was mid-conversation with a customer when the familiar twinkle of the door rung again.I braced myself for the new arrival. In walked a tall dark figure with a hood on.
Suddenly the atmosphere died down in the bar.
Even though I was new in town,I knew most of the people there since it was a small city. But this person....who was this?
I stared at the figure as it made it's way towards a table at the back.I nudged Maria with my elbow.
"Who is that?"I ask still looking at the figure.
"Who?" She asked perplexed.
"Him"I point him to her discretly.
"Ohhh.That's Olivier."She said.
Oliver...
To continue......
Hey! So that's it for the first chapter.I know it's not a lot, but I am for real trying my best.Don't hesitate to give me some feedbacks!
