The woman floating in deep space, came into a conscious state.  E.J. breathed in sharply, the quick burst of oxygen fully filling her lungs.  She was coming back into a state of awareness and soon after, everything played through her mind.  E.J. tried not to panic and had to gain control of her breathing even more so, it was then that she was able to stop the episode of hyper-ventilation.

As calmly as she could E.J. went through the scenes in her mind that she could remember.  She could recall when she was hit by a piece of flying metal debris.  It had gouged her deeply in the region of the temple on the right side of her face and cut into the bone of her cheekbone.

E.J. then had the memory of the blaring of an emergency alarm system sounding off and frantic people running everywhere.  Yes, that's right she thought to herself, it was the combination of cries, orders, and commands to evacuate.  They came from men, women as well as an electronic alarm system ordering the ship members to get off the ship immediately.

E.J. had been running with a small group of others towards the emergency pod escape vessels station when the explosion in the walkway made its strike.   The alert rang out, "You have 9 minutes remaining to evacuate, alert, please evacuate now!"

E.J. was being half dragged and carried to the evac pod station.  She heard the desperate voice of someone saying that there weren't any more pod vessels left on the ship.  Blood was still pouring and running into her eyes, but she was able to see others wearing the jet pack suits used for space exploration and working on the outside of the ship moving out.

She felt someone roughly and hurriedly shoving her into a jet pack suit, and she heard a man's voice say, "Hold on E.J.  I am going to get you out of here!"  Beyond the point of her head wound being swabbed with iodine and feeling the pressure of the bandage...a snap of the jet pack helmet and a shove into space...nothing.

Someone had saved her life...and now she was floating randomly in open space.  She was alive for the time being and fully experiencing the pain from the concussion she was suffering from.  E.J. was feeling extremely woozy, and along with her head and cheek throbbing and pounding so badly simultaneously, she heard her own heartbeat quaking in her ears.  That is when E.J. faded back into unconsciousness, alone in the vast empty space around her.

Sunami was enjoying surfing amongst the cosmic waves.  She preferred the action of the riptides just beyond the outermost limits of her city, which was called Helix City.  Sunami had just finished riding out her third major wave, when something caught her eye.  Being of the curious nature, she caught the beginning of a small cosmic swirl and set out into that direction.  Sunami was surprised at what she glided upon when she got there.

"Whoa dude!" said a cosmic surfer dude, "Am I glad to see You!  I found this injured space chic, and she is totally out of it."

Sunami spoke in return, "It looks to me that if we don't act quickly, she is going to run out of that 8% of oxygen that is bleeping low air supply in her space suit.  It's a good thing you have made it this close to my city."

She then tapped her wrist-com device and spoke into it.  "Medic Avis this is Sunami, do you copy?"

A chirp sounded off from her com-pad followed by a response.  "This is Medic Avis, what's up Sunami, are you okay?"

"Yeah, but this injured unconscious space traveler won't be if we don't get her to you a.s.a.p.  We are coming to you in a hurry.  Meet us at Gate 3 and I believe we can save her in time."

"Roger that, point of entry at Gate 3 over and out." replied Medic Avis as he signed off.

"Okay cosmic dude, let's do this.  Its long board time don't you think?"  Sunami asked.

"Far out, ready when you are cool chic lets boogey!" responded cosmic dude in return.

They secured the space traveler between them and synced their boards as one into longboard form.   With Sunami in front, they caught a huge wave, and they were off.

Sunami pointed ahead as she told cosmic dude, "Gate 3 is about 10 wave lengths past that pulsing beacon star, that is where we need to land."

The longboard was superfast, and they were coming in on the top crest of the wave.  There was a group of young cosmic surfers out in the cosmic sea.  They had quite an audience as they flew by and shortly after landed at the gate.  Medic Avis was there waiting for them.  He hurriedly positioned and placed the injured space traveler into to med transporter and beamed up and away.
