Three years ago:
Y/N, a 16-year-old scottish girl, lived with her father, mother, and little sister in Glasgow. Y/N parents had a little secret about their family blood line, most of Y/N dad's family side had sickle cell and sickle cell trait. Y/N parents wanted to keep her and her little sister out of trouble, but Y/N was drawn to a notorious gang. The gang's thrill and sense of belonging tempted her, and she started small, running errands and doing odd Jobs. However, when the gang demanded she straps parcels of drugs from a dangerous warehouse, Y/N refused, fearing the risks.
[Setting: A cramped, dimly lit room in Scotland, Y/N's former gang gathered around her]
Mac: "Y/N, lass, we've got a job for ye. We need ye to steal a parcel from the Red Vipers' hideout."
Y/N: "No way, Mac. I'm not doing it."
Jamie: "What do ye mean, no way? Ye're part of this gang, Y/N."
Y/N: "I mean, I'm not stealing from anyone else. I've had enough of that life."
Sophie: "Ye owe us, Y/N. We took ye in when ye had nothing."
Y/N: "I know that, Sophie. But I'm not going to risk my life for a parcel. What's in it anyway?"
Mac: "That's need-to-know, lass. Just do the job."
Y/N: "No, Mac. I won't do it. And I think it's time I left this gang for good."
Jamie: "Ye can't just leave, Y/N. Ye're one of us."
Y/N: "Watch me. I'm done with this life."
[Y/N stands up and walks away, leaving the gang behind]
The gang saw her refusal as a betrayal. In retaliation, the gang member began targeting Y/N family. At first it was just small things - graffiti on walls, trash thrown on their lawn. But soon, the threat escalated.
Y/N parents, Morven and Angus, noticed the change and grew worried. They tried to talk to Y/N about it but she was reluctant to involve them.
One night, Y/N mom, Morven, decided to take matters into her own hands. She secretly went to meet the gang members hoping to negotiate the truce. She contacted the gang member and was told to meet them up
[Setting: A secret meeting spot, Y/N's mother, Morven, and the two gang leaders, Mac and Jamie]
Morven: "Please, Mac, Jamie, I'm beggin' ye. Leave my family alone. Y/N made her choices, but her father and I have nothin' to do with the gang."
Mac: "Ye should've thought of that before ye raised a daughter who'd betray us, Morven."
Morven: "Y/N not a bad person. She was misled. And she's willin' to leave the gang for good."
Jamie: "It's too late for that. She knows too much. And ye're just tryin' to protect ourselves."
Morven: "I'm tryin' to protect my family. Please, have mercy. Don't hurt us."
Mac: "Mercy? Ye want mercy from us? We don't do mercy, Morven."
Jamie: "Aye, ye should've thought of that before ye crossed us."
[Mac and Jamie pull out guns and point them at Morven]
Morven: "No, please! Don't shoot me! I'm beggin' ye!"
[Mac and Jamie shoot Morven, and she falls to the ground]
Mac: "That's what happens when ye try to negotiate with us, Morven. Ye should've stayed out of it."
[Mac and Jamie exit the meeting spot, leaving Morven's body behind]
The Next day
Y/N father worried and frustrated, called his wife but no response. Y/N father came to living room to where Y/N and her little sister sat deciding to watch the news with them.
[Setting: Y/N family living room, Y/N, her father Angus, and her younger sister Alyssa watching the news on TV]
News Anchor: "Breaking news: a woman was found shot dead in a suspected gang-related incident. The victim has been identified as Morven, a local resident..."
Y/N Father: [stunned] "Oh no...oh no...it can't be...What was she doing to get herself killed?"
Alyssa(Y/N LITTLE SIS): [confused] "What's happening, Dad?"
Y/N: [shocked] "Mom...no...this can't be happening...Why would they hurt her?"
Angus (Y/N Father): [devastated] "I don't know...I don't know...She was a good person...She didn't deserve this..."
Alyssa: [scared] "Is this because of you, Asona? Because of your friends?"
Y/N: [tearfully] "I...I don't know...I didn't mean for this to happen..."
Y/N: [angrily] "Those bastards...they'll pay for this...I'll make sure of it..."
Alyssa: [scared] "Y/N, what's going on? Why did those bad people hurt Mommy?"
Y/N: [hesitantly] "I...I don't know how to explain it...Mom went to...to try to fix things...but I didn't know she was going to do that..."
Angus: [angrily] "Fix what things? What are you talking about,Y/N?"
Alyssa: [confused] "What did Mommy try to fix, Y/N?"
Y/N: [tearfully] "I...I can't explain it right now...Just know that Mom loved us and was trying to protect us..."
Angus: [frustrated] "Y/N, tell us what's going on! What did your mother get herself into?"
Alyssa: [scared] "Y/N, please tell us...We don't understand..."
Y/N took a deep breath and told her father and sister the truth. "Mom went to negotiate with the gang leaders because of me. She wanted to protect me from them, but they killed her instead."
Angus's face turned red with anger, while Alyssa looked confused and scared.
"Why did Mom do that?" Alyssa asked.
"Because she loved us and wanted to keep us safe," Asona replied, tears streaming down her face.
Angus stood up, his jaw clenched. "We need to get out of here. We can't stay in this neighborhood anymore."
"Where will we go?" Y/N asked.
"South London," Angus replied. "We'll start fresh there. Leave all this behind."
Y/N nodded, feeling a glimmer of hope. Maybe a new start was what they needed.
The next few days were a blur as they packed their belongings and said goodbye to their friends and neighbors. Y/N felt a mix of emotions - sadness, fear, but also a sense of relief.
As they drove to South London, Y/N looked out the window, watching the cityscape change. She knew this was just the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
When they arrived at their new home, Y/N felt a sense of unease. Everything was unfamiliar - the streets, the buildings, the people. But as she looked at her father and sister, she knew they would face this new life together.
"Let's start again," Angus said, putting his arms around them. "Let's leave the past behind and make a new future."
Y/N nodded, feeling a sense of determination. They would rebuild their lives, together.
